Hi all,

I first found this forum while looking for pictures of the Namiki VP. A second pen (Sailor P. Gear) and eight bottles of ink later I figured I should get around to registering here.

I'm from Tokyo, Japan but I'm currently a medical student in sunny San Diego. My quest for interesting colors for notetaking led me to rediscover the merits of the FP, which I first used in high school.

At the time I was using some cheapo (Mitsubishi?) $3 disposable fountain pen that had terrible flow. 7 years later it occurs to me that a better pen might be an improvement. I had no idea how much of an improvement it would be.

Now when I pick up my Pilot G-2's I have trouble with them because I'm no longer used to exerting pressure when I write.

Right now I'm looking to accumulate a few inexpensive pens so I can have access to my full color arsenal. I also have my eye on the Aurora Mare and the Pelikan M800 but pens of that cost will have to wait until graduation.

Welcome, and remember that there are wonderful affordable pens out there: Lamy Safari, many Pelikans and Retro 51s to name a few.

lordjeebus, welcome! When you finally get that Aurora Mare, let me know and I'll be happy to share it with you! biggrin.gif I've had one of my eyes on that pen since I first saw it. You will fit right in here! Those charts you posted in the Burgundy ink forum were very helpful by the way (with your translation of course)!!

Have fun!
Marina.

Love your subject line. smile.gif

Yes, this hobby (and this forum) will suck you into more pens, more ink, more paper. I now have half of my "sewing room" devoted to pens and paper and ink.

Welcome to FPN and glad you found us.

I've gazed longingly at the Mare for a long time but it wouldn't fit my hand anyway. Still, nice to admire it.

Welcome to FPN, lordjeebus! biggrin.gif

You'll have to explain the avatar (if you don't mind); it is hilarious laugh.gif
(I thought of Homer Simpson the instant I saw your username, although the term might have originated elsewhere)

As acfrery said, there are many reasonably-priced and well-made fountain pens out there. I would highly recommend checking out the "Fountain Pen Reviews" forum here on FPN for some feedback/ideas smile.gif

Enjoy the forums!

Hey lordjeebus, welcome! Great subject line, great avatar, great handle. I feel like I should be bowing and scraping or something. ohmy.gif

Are you originally from Tokyo? If so, your English coulda fooled me.

Cheers!

Welcome

I'm local in San Diego, right near UCSD (if that's where you are studying medicine) and I have about a dozen fp inks if you would ever like a dip.
