I just won my first Esterbrook auction on ebay... and I have to say, I LOVE this pen, even though I know very little about it. It's in unrestored but working condition, although I intend to replace the sac on it, anyway.

The only markings on it are "Esterbrook" on the clip, and "Esterbrook 9668 Made in USA" on the nib. It's a dark chocolate brown, almost black, with silver-tone (I'm assuming nickel?) fittings. The cap is silver-tone with a brown top. The body of the pen is brown with a silver-tone ring where the section joins the barrel, and another at the base of the barrel. The lever is on the side of the barrel rather than the top, and has no markings. It is also silver-tone.

Sorry for not posting pics... my camera is being cantankerous tonight. tongue.gif

Does the description ring a bell for anyone?

I forgot to mention...

Engraved in the side is the Esterbrook logo and "Made in USA"

Oooh... I found it on Esterbrook.net

On this page, it's the second pen in the third picture, though showing a bit more wear. If I understand correctly, it's the SM, as it has a friction cap rather than a screw-on.

Did I get a bargain on this? It feels like a bargain, at about $10 including shipping...

At a ten spot you paid about what the nib is worth alone. Throw in the pen and you got a really good deal. Give the nib a good soak overnight and run a few loads of water through the pen to clean out the sac and you should be ready for a few decades of writing.

The bad news is you now have a new habit. There are no documented cases of a person stopping at one Esterbrook. OK there are a few but we don't discuss them, they all had bad endings.

The barrels on this model tend to scratch easily so I would avoid posting if it is in pristine condition.

Last bit of advice, get a few different Renew points and everyone needs at least one (of each color) J series. Watch the market place here for restored pen from someone trying to quit the habit.

What size sac should I look for on this one? Any idea?

Use a #16 sac cut 1 15/16" long.
