Maplume Leather Pen Cases, ebay seller classicpencases, example here, has Indian ebonite pens for fairly low prices. Has anyone on FPN bought one of these pens? How do they perform? i.e, How do they write, and how leak-prone are they, since they are all eyedroppers?

I bought a pen case from them a year or more ago, but have not splurged on the ebonite pens, as I wanted to get some sort of testimonial before I risked my meager funds.

I bought one of the 25-30 dollar pens. Nice, fine nib, filled easily. No leakage around the area between the body and section ( greased with silicon any way). One or two nib oozes, nothing unusual. I like it but I normally like a wider nib, great for spread sheet entries however. Good service and delivery time.

Thank you for the prompt reply. My main concern was too-wide nibs, or leakage. What exactly do you mean by nib oozes? I am now sorely tempted.

Hi,

If you search around on the site a couple of members have bought them and there is at least one review, although I can't track it down at the moment. From memory the review was good, but too be honest I wouldn't expect too much for $25, so don't be disappointed if it isn't great.

Some times (once or twice) if the pen had not been upright or had been bumped you get a drop too much ink when you put pen to paper. I usually notice and a simple blot >you are ready to go. I have had this happen in other pens due to overfilling or temperture change, bumping, etc.. In the ED it may be because of ink level and temperture change/ I live in Florida and the temperture is is often just shy of " It's confimed, I am in Hell!" followed by Air conditioning set to "Frost Bite".

The one that I received was not a good pen.

The cap threads are single lead (not tragic, but not ideal).

And then the cap was not concentric to the barrel. When screwing the cap on, it actually wiggles in small circles on the end.

That being said, there's nothing wrong with the nib. It needed some smoothing and tine alignment, but once I did that, it's a good writer.

I'm tempted to mount the barrel on the lathe and cut proper threads into it, and then make my own cap.
