DON'T DO IT!!

No leaks, looks great, ink drips from the nib every 2 words.

Have you tried other inks? I did this with my Kultur and it works perfectly.

Well, I'd blame your location for the problem - all this dadgum heat. But if Sumemr (Summer?) is in N. FL, then it can't be much cooler there. tongue.gif

You mean it could be the ink and not the pen?
Renzhe
It could be your hand heating up all the air inside the pen.. Did you fill it up all the way?

Sorry it didn't work out. That is a darn fine red by the way.

Definitely something out of order there. I've eyedropper filled five of my ten Kulturs, and they work like a charm. Each one is a different Noodler's (Black, Red, Luxury Blue, Shah's Rose and Dragon's Napalm), and required no modification at all. Maybe you have a slightly misaligned thread on the barrel which isn't sealing properly and letting in too much air. Try a little silicon grease around the end of the barrel, or plumbers thread further up the barrel thread (although that may spoil the transparent looks).

Not sure how your pen was sold to you, but it is actually a Kultur Demonstrator (standard steel nib, rather than the two-tone nib on the Phileas, plus the Phileas has the 'gold' bands on the cap, and band and seal towards the end of the barrel - which also makes it unwise to use a Phileas as an eyedropper fill). I have one of these too (in fact it was my first Kultur) and have eyedroppered it with no problems (it's dry at the moment, along with my one Phileas, waiting for some more Noodler's colours to arrive!).

Effrafax, you are a star. I increased the amount of silicone grease and got rid of the o-ring and it now works like a charm. When I did it the first time, the tell tale sign that it was leaking air was that the feed immediately filled with ink. Having never had a demonstrator before I didn't know that this was not the norm. This time around, the feed remains mostly dry with only a tiny amount of inks flowing to the nib. Works like a charm. I think I'll buy a few more of these because they look great.

Thanks once again!

I never had problems to convert mine into an eyedropper, you can also convert an edson into an eyedropper but use then waterman ink only.

Glad it fixed your problem. The Kulturs and Phileas are great everyday pens. Would have hated to see it go wasted!
Discordianist
Could you convert Phileas into ED, by fixing nib section into barrel and then using the end "cap" to fill with syringe? It would sound reasonable and nice pen. Althou I have no idea how the brass weight in barrel reacts to ink smile.gif

Just checked on my Phileas, and it looks like a good plan. However, note that traditional wisdom, such as you'll find on FPN, says that you just don't use a pen with any bare metal in the barrel for an ED. It will really depend on the ink, but it would just be too unpredictable, especially with brass.

I've been to scared to convert the kulture into an ED, as its the most expensive pen I have. I finally washed out my preppy eye dropper that came with a bottle of nakita from noodlers. I filled it with 5 parts noodlers red/black, 2 parts noodlers nakita, and 1 part PR quick dry black. Its a blackish/maroon color and leaves a nice brown line when the line is washed under water. I needed a lab pen that was a large fill and would also be waterproof. Looks like I found my pen!

I had this exact same problem with a Platinum Preppy, and silicone grease did the trick just like it did for you. Amazing, that grease!

Just FYI- this isn't the norm for ill-configured demonstrators... though it is for ill-configured eye droppers. A demonstrator is a pen with a translucent or transparent body that allows the pen to demonstrate how it works. The Pilot 823 is an example. Folks do refer to the Kultur as a demonstrator, but it's because of the clear body, not the eye dropper.

(I know, I know- some folks limit "demonstrator" to mean a pen which was actually used by salesmen to demonstrate how the pen works to clients and customers, but modern "demonstrators" along those lines don't really exist anymore. )
