Full Version: what other Pilot pens will my 823 nib fit?

Does anyone have a Pilot pen body that I can screw my 823's nib and section into? Or make a suggestion as to what I can do with this perfectly good nib. Or maybe you'd want to buy this nib outright. If so, make me an offer. It is a M, and SO smooth. The rest of the pen is a goner. Possibly the cap could be used, but I'm not very hopeful. I've reached the end of my rope with this sad story. bawl.gif

Well, my first thought would be to check with John Mottishaw to see how they actually remove from the pen, as well as what they're reasonably close to in size (vintage or modern). I don't know the approximate dimensions of a #15 Pilot 14K, but I'd imagine that they're reasonably similar to the old-skool Duofold nibs. Perhaps you could dig up a nice Big Red sans nib and slot it in there? If you ever wanted unique, you'd have it there.

(Oh shut up, all you purists who are gasping right now...he loves the nib! Wait 'til you see what I'm fixin' to do with a Thompson that's on its way...) smile.gif

Anything work out with Edison?

Hey Tony... Sorry to hear that Pilot didn't come through for you. Hope you can find a good use for the nib... and perhaps you'll take the plunge for another 823 someday. They really are fantastic pens!

It's not that I couldn't work out anything w/ Edison. It's just that the estimate came back higher than I was anticipating. Yes, the nib is very smooth. I'm hoping something will work out eventually.

I am a newbie to FPN and came upon your story. I have 2 823s, both black. One has a Broad nib and the other a Medium which has been customized into an oblique by John Mottishaw. One of the pen barrels has developed a small crack in the threads and leaks into the crook between my thumb and index finger. This renders the pen unusable. I am able to switch nibs between the one usable body but this tends to get annoying. I have treated these pens with the utmost care and am disappointed. I am looking to repair/replace the pen body and am at a loss on how to proceed. Any suggestions out there?

Pilgin,

You might get a better, and surely a faster, reply if you ask your question in an original post. Most people aren't going to see it here.
