I am brand new to the use, and world, of fountain pens. I found this forum a few days ago, signed up and here I am.
I got a DuPont Orpheus for Christmas. It is a beautiful pen and it is rather heavy...something I like. It has a large diameter so it fits into my hand well and it glides across the paper with almost no effort. I am amazed at how well it writes. It is blue in color with chrome accents. For my first pen I think its a good one. I use the Private Reserve Lake Placid Blue bottled ink in it.
My youngest (7) son liked how the pen looked so much I took him to the store that sold me the DuPont and got him a Rotring Core pen and some PR Dakota Red cartridges. I liked how that wrote so I went back to the store again and bought one for myself. I got the PR Black Cherry cartridges. I haven't installed them in the pen just yet.
I am amazed at how easy writing is with a FP. I thought my MontBlanc Meisterstick (sp?) was easy to write with...its a BP.....but my FP is waaaaay easier. From what I have seen here and other places on the web using a fountain pen can become addicting.....which leads to owning several of them. I can see how that could happen. I own two already
I am hoping that I can learn about fountains so that I can begin a small collection. New or used, it really doesn't matter. I think it would be an interesting hobby. I live in Atlanta and I saw where there is a pen show coming to town in March. I already have the dates in my PDA.
Something I hope to gain from my owning a FP (or several) is the ability to write notes and letters to clients, friends and family. Handwritten notes are all but non-exsistent in todays society of e-mail and word processors. I'm not that old (40) and I see how much I use e-mail to communicate. I want to write more in 2006 and I know that my pens and this forum will help.
I'm rambling....it 12:18am est here in Atlanta so I guess I should hit the rack. Thanks for reading and I look forward to learning much from this community.
