I've always been a little disappointed in the CON-20 converter... it is fine for the short pens, but for the larger ones (like the Custom) a larger converter would fit. If only Pilot had one available...

Well, I picked up an old Pilot pen off the 'bay, containing a squeeze converter. When I went to clean out the pen, I noticed something odd about the converter--it looked a little larger than usual. I thought my mind was just playing tricks on me, until I placed it along side a CON-20. Yep, sure enough it's about a good 1/4 inch longer. I take it this is a discontinued converter? I haven't seen one of these for sale anywhere.

Naturally, I couldn't have a full win on this... it turns out this converter has a slight hole in it, as ink leaks out when squeezing it. I think I can patch it up, though. Hopefully... it's not a significant increase from the CON-20, but enough to be noticeable.

Hrm... sounds like it could be a Pilot CON-W converter, a double-spare replacement. Harder to find but they are out there.

Pilot did make a larger squeeze converter that came with some better grade pens in the 1970s.
It is about 3/16" longer than a standard CON-20 model.

I have one in front of me that comes with a Pilot Custom Bible quoation pen. I've not seen these for sale separate from any pen and have found them only with some Pilot Custom Buddhist scripture, Bible quotation, and makie pens. I might be missing referencing a model or two.

This is not to say they were not standard for pens sold in India, Southeast Asia, Korea, or other markets where Pilot has a presence. Several years ago I bought a large bunch of converters from a pen collector in India of which there were several models of Pilot converters included, including a few for 1960s pens. The converters are almost all gone. However, I recall there being four (maybe five) different models of Pilot converter of which fit two (I'm tempted to say three!) nipple sizes.

Yes, indeed. Thanks for the info, Stan. Now I understand why I hadn't seen them before. I bought a Pilot pen that was made in Korea, and this extra long converter was inside it.

Definitely not a CON-W, Laura--but thanks for bringing that up; I'd not seen those before either.

So, I take it Pilot doesn't make these "CON-20+" converters anymore, eh? Oh well... the cartridges seem to be about halfway in size between these two converters. And I'm finding the translucent cartridge makes for an excellent ink window. I may end up switching and just syringe filling.
