I just stumbled across this forum a couple of days ago and find it very interesting.

Now I have a question. I have a Shaeaffer cartridge pen dating from about 1966. Black body, white gold cap with yellow gold ring and pocket clip, marked lifetime. The nib is inlaid into the body and has a cutout with an elongated diamond shaped black piece in it.

Dad was in the office equipment/supply business then and was a Shaeffer dealer. What model do I have, and more importantely is there a converter available where I can fill it from bottle ink. He got it for me while I was in college, along with the matching pencil

Thanks

I believe you have a Sheaffer Imperial. A photo would help us identify it better.

Converters are definitely available. Check out www.Pendemonium.com or www.swisherpens.com for Sheaffer converters. Note that most Sheaffers (including the Imperial) take their own size of converter, so you have to get Sheaffer brand converters, since international sized converters and cartridges won't work with them.

I don't see too many Imperial pencils - I'd love to see a picture. smile.gif

Most Sheaffers will accept the same converter. There are exceptions but generally speaking, a Sheaffer converter will fit most Sheaffer fountain pens. In addition to the dealers mentioned by Martius, you could post a request on the Classified & Market Watch section: wanted to buy. The type of converter you probably need continues to be made for use in currently produced Sheaffer pens so getting one shouldn't be a problem.

I've been working long days recently and have been unable to reply. Upon looking at some of the sites mentioned, I also found one called penhero and got a little history on this model. It is not marked Imperial but the pen is marked Lifetime on the clip, then pencil is not. I read that when they brought back the lifetime guarantee they changed the labeling. Actually the pen clip is marked Lifetime on the clip and around the cap body just above the gold band. The pencil is not marked Lifetime, Imperial or anything, but is a definite match to the pen. I remember it came as a set because I picked it out.

I'll try to get my camera working and post a picture but am not proficient at this and may have to ask for help.
