Hi all,

I recieved a Conway Stewart pen for my birthday, and knowing absolutley nothing about pens I had no idea of what it was. Simply thinking 'a pen is a pen' it was put to the back of a draw and forgotten about until recently a friend of mine told me otherwise.

Its a Dandy limited edition, #82 of 500, colour Demonstrator(Rhodium), similar to the 3rd one from the left in this picture-

However it is a ballpoint/rollerball (I'm not sure of the difference). It comes in a leather box with certificate of authenticity.

Just wondered if anyone could shed some light on what I have, is it collectable? how much is it worth? that kind of thing.

I will try and get some photos of it if that will be of help to anyone.

Any information would be greatly recieved.

Dandies aren't limited editions; this is a common misunderstanding of the colour system.

I don't know how collectible they are, but I sure enjoy mine (though mine is a fountain pen).

This is definitely a limited edition, I have a certificate with it from Conway Stewart saying that it is number 82 of 500. Will take some photos later to show this.

Greetings,

You have a nice ball point pen in your Dandy Demonstartor LE. The Demonstratior color pattern must look nice with the rhodium clip, band, and tip. (You may not be aware of the fact that rhodium is more expensive than gold or platinium.)

Conway Stewart now only makes the Dandy line of pens as 'bespoke', which basically means through special order so I might suggest to you that your pen is only one of five-hundred. Is it collectable? I would say yes, if you wanted to hold onto the pen for several years to come. Is it worth a lot? once again that depends. If one were to order the pen now it may cost upwards of $400.00 for the ball point pen and $430.00 for the fountain pen. (See Richard Binder's site for pricing.) The pen was most likely about a $200.00 or more gift when it was given to you.

You will have no problems finding replacement ink cartridges for your Dandy ball point pen. It takes standard Parker refills. One can also use gel refill cartridges if so inclined. That makes for a different writing experience.

I would suggest that you use the pen and enjoy using it. Just don't set it down and forget it one day! It most certainly isn't your standard Bic ball point.

Peace,

Phroneo
