A few years ago I got a Shaeffer Balance Aspen LE from the HP Hospital in NYC and I absolutely loved it. "Balance" is certainly an appropriate name as it rests perfectly in my hand. One day at work while taking the pen out of my shirt pocket it slipped out of my hand and fell to the tile floor. The good news is that I had the cap on so the nib wasn't damaged at all. The bad news is that I had the cap on and it must have hit the floor at just the right (wrong) angle so that it crazed the cap. sick.gif There's a crack that extends around the circumference of the cap right where the clip joins the top of the cap. It's still in one piece and it's still usable, but I'm afraid to since there's a small fracture where the clip appears to be pulling a broken piece of the cap away from the rest of it.

Is there anything I can do? I tried calling the FP Hospital and they referred me to the US Shaeffer distributor who never returned my calls. I really like the pen and I'm sad that it's been taken out of my pen rotation. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I had a cracked cap on an Aspen Balance and Sheaffer replaced it for free.
You should give them a call, they are usually very efficient.
Good luck!

I got a response from Sheaffer by emailing them:

Thanks for the help, guys. I just e-mailed them at the address given by Chainwhip. Btw, Chainwhip, I saw the blurb below your avatar and I have the Lamy 2000 Stainless steel fp. I love it - though I think the balance isn't quite as good as the regular black one - the cap adds substantial weight to the back end when it's in use. If I ever decide to sell it though I'll let you know.

Thanks Ryno!

I'm don't really post the cap when I write - I've heard from others about the weight though.

I'll have the $$ ready and available when you're ready to part w/ that pen smile.gif
