Plus, I'm hoping Brian Gray can make something for me, using my 823 nib.

Platinum makes a very nice and smooth three-tined music nib and you can purchase one in every color, as long as it is black. I have one and love it.

Tony, do you CARE what people think of your next purchases?

(and I think they are great choices.........).
goodguy

Just looking for a little feedback. I'm on a less quantity, higher quality pursuit now.

What you buy is your business, why would you care what we think of your choices?

Do you really want my opinion?
Deirdre
Nah, they suck. (Gold trim.)

Glenn, apparently I don't want your opinion--geez! glare.gif My intention for posting this thread was just to get some feedback. If some of you have some experiences w/ either of the aforementioned pens, your input would be most appreciated. If you have some suggestions of other, maybe somewhat similar models, where my money would be better spent, speak up. If you have no opinion, or don't wish to engage in this thread--HAVE A NICE DAY! Deirdre--I don't know, I guess GT is just my first choice. I do know that some pens and or colors ONLY look good w/ silver trim. I have several of those, too. It's all good. biggrin.gif

Hi. It's a very pretty pen. I'm curious about that nib. Does anyone have an example (or link) of the type of line it would lay down?

It's a music nib, so it'd lay down an line something like this (courtesy of LeighR):

I'm thinking of using it especially for signatures. I once that I wanted the Sailor Music nib (1 slit), but someone here, suggested the Platinum would probably be smoother, and slightly wetter. Plus, the price would be better.
Deirdre
If you're going for a music nib, go for the double slit. I have a Platinum Koi music nib on my wishlist. (despite the gold furniture)

Just giving you a hard time, Tony. I think you're on the right track, and I am actually on the same track-getting rid of all of the pens that I bought because I had an extra $150 and found that I never used and trying to get most of the pens that I really wanted over the years.

I just ordered one of those-a Stipula-tonight, and my second Nakaya arrives tomorrow. Since Nakaya and Platinum are kin, stands to reason I would like your first choice. I also have 3 Van Gogh's (one is a roller), and so I guess I also have to give them a thumbs up.

You have my official approval. Done. Settled.

Hey Doug. Thanks for the feedback. Which Stipula? The DaVinci really has me intrigued. If you have a DaVinci, how similar and/or different is the using/writing experience than a VP? Supposedly, Swisher has some Cappucino & Evergreen VG Maxi's coming in. Both have the GT, which I like. BTW, I do appreciate your stamp of approval. thumbup.gif

The DaVinci has a softer touch and more feedback than the Vanishing Point (you did say VP), and also than the Van Gogh. Also, I found the DaVinci wrote a tidge wider than the equivalent Visconti nib. I'd be happy to do a side-by-side if you want, though. (I can't find my VP, so that'll have to be out of the equation.)

As far as weight and balance goes, the DaVinci is a heavy pen, where the Van Gogh Maxi is large, but not heavy. I find both of them well-balanced for long writing sessions.

My Deirdre, aren't you the informative one? Thanks so much! I really like my orange LE VP, and ever since I got it, I want to seek out other retractable nibs. Sure, a comparison would be great. I'm looking forward to getting the VG in. After a few days of stewing over it, I settled on it, rather than spending a lot more for a Opera Master.

Tony,

You might want to try the Stipula Bellini, on sale at Fahrney's. It's not a big pen, but it's a very sweet writer. As you can see, it's in my rotation right now and I love it more and more. You can even use it as an eyedropper. It's not a retractable, however.

Thanks Erick. I just went and took a peak at this pen--very nice. The rose gold is different, but very cool.

Why so nasty?
A pen that may be my worst choice in color, size, style, nib, barrel diameter, weight, etc etc etc may just be you favorite choice for all the same reasons and criteria.
If You like it BUY it.
I happen to believe that you should buy what you want and like, not what everyone else wants.

Me nasty? I just saw your earlier reply as less-than-friendly, antagonistic, and a little bit snippy.
What you buy is your business, why would you care what we think of your choices?
Do you really want my opinion?

I was merely trying to initiate some dialogue about some pens I was considering. Isn't that one of the purposes of this forum in the first place? If you're not one that cares for that sort of exchange, fine. If you didn't care to offer your opinion, then you should've taken that as your cue, not to offer any. When I buy a pen, especially one that costs more than a few bucks, I tend to investigate it throughly. That may include garnering the opinions of others who may have the same pen, about their experiences. It's called being an informed shopper. I find it somewhat bewildering that I am having to explain my rationale to you. Why can't we just agree to disagree and move on?

It is an older one. The Novecento Chromo. Deirdre and I had been trying to work out a deal for one of hers (she has eight of every make and model of every pen), and a deal fell into my lap for a new one. It has been on my wishlist (yes, I have a real wishlist) for years.

I do love the idea of the DaVinci though I'm not sure I could use it (pretty large and heavy), especially the one that Deirdre has. I don't know the name of it, but even though it has gold trim, it is just the most strking of all the materials. I also know that even though my LA 91's retracting mechansm is awful and very stiff, every DaVinci I've tried has been fast and ultra-smooth.

The one I have is the DaVinci Infinity, which has rose gold trim.

My La 91 hasn't been stiff, but it does dry out. The pen also likes to hide, which it's very good at, being so small and all.
