Hey everyone, Nico here writing from Canada's west coast. Thanks for this great fountain-pen-and-everything-that-goes-along-with-them place. I am not a collector, but love using fountain pens. I have already enjoyed many of the pen and ink reviews herein.
A Mont Blanc 146 (black and platinum), medium nib, was given to me when I graduated and I use it practically everyday.
The other great pen I have, in that it works greatly, is a Spalding & Bros, inexpensive, sleek, in a way, unassuming, but an excellent smooth nib... until I dropped on its nose a few weeks ago.... I managed to fix it and it is almost back to normal, but not quite. It still gets a lot of use.
I have a question that I hope I'll get some feedback on: most of the paper I have easy access to seems to contain a percentage of recycled material in it. This almost invariably causes the majority of inks to feather and bleed through. Has anybody found an ink that they can use on recycled paper that is free of these annoying effects? So far, and somewhat surprisingly, Mont Blanc blue-black is the only one for me, but I haven't tried too many. Noodler's Eel Blue, Private Reserve Midnight Blues and Velvet black are hopeless (better, but not perfect, on Moleskines).
Thanks for any feedback.
Read you later,
Nico

Hi, Nico! A big welcome here from a neighbor south of the border. Welcome to the FPN!
Waterman ink has a reputation for being one of the best behaved inks out there, though some dislike the fact that it is not as pigment saturated as some other brands. It would be a good starting point. This would be an excellent topic to post in the Inky Thoughts forum, though.
See you around the forum!

Hi, Nico! Welcome to the boards. I'm another neighbor to the south. Love Vancouver BC; I'd move there in a heartbeat if my wife's job allowed it. Good to see another left coast person here!

Hey Nico!
How're doing!?
Welcome to the Fountain Pen Network. Hope you can stay awhile...
How would you like to find some nice paper to replace that recycled stuff you're using? The best is simply Clairefontaine. Once you go to the office supply store and purchase memo pads, legal pads, spirals and such from any other house brand, finding a source for Clairefontaine pads means heaven.
It is easier on your nib and hands when you write. Clairefontaine and Rhodia are an excellent start for you. Your fountain pen will thank you.
Have fun,
John (Shamouti)

Hey Nico,
Welcome to FPN!

And yes, there is indeed a Vancouver Pen Club in our fair city! We're a pretty casual club that usually meets once a month on the 3rd Thursday of the month with the exception of December and the summer months of June-August. Our next meeting therefore, will likely be in September, but please check our website (www.vancouverpenclub.com) for details closer to the expected date of the meeting. If you would like to be added to our e-mailing list, please send me a PM (Personal Message) through FPN and I will add you to the list. The way to send a PM is to use the pull-down menu below a member's name, click on "Send Message" and then fill out the body & title of the message before sending it.....
Now about your ink question.....I have tried Noodler's Black on cheap newspaper and it didn't feather...so that might be one to try. The Perks store across from Oakridge Mall (website: www.perksperks.com) carries the Noodler's line.....
