I have been bitten by a NN bug, and have been accumulating NN a little by little

I remember reading about the horse-shoe shape on the end of the barrel, inside the indentation but cannot seem to find the thread Is it correct that the absence of horse-shoe shape indicates older NN pens? Also I've noticed that pens without the horse-shoe shape has just "Sheaffer" on the clip. So, are pens with engraving "Sheaffer U.S.A." on the clip newer pens?

Tough question. I have a couple of no-nonsense, but I don't have them on hand right now. I will have to look - I don't think I have even heard anything about the horseshoe shape before.

So far as the clip engravings go, I think the the simple "Sheaffer" was used in the earlier pens (through the 1970's and 1980's), while the USA was added later. I'm not absolutely clear on that, though. Maybe Jim M. will stop by and give us the full reckoning.

What a dazzling and confusing variety of pens. These are almost as bad to collect as the Sheaffer WASPs.
