The #666 "Dip-Lost" nib. Used for signing contracts in blood. Very expensive.

I have one of these nibs but there is another that has gold plating in the "sunburst" area. This nib in particular has an asking price of $65 on Vintage Pens website so not sure of the value for the gold plated one.
As for why, it's an Esterbrook and it looks very, very nice

I think the 'sunburst' nibs look pretty cool and do seem to command a premium perhaps for that reason. My most expensive stand alone nib is a two toned 8440 unused in its presentation box. I probably paid too much for it but its very purty.
