Full Version: Pelikan Trafalgar Square

Now, don't you all go and get excited, I'm just speculating about what I think is next, I've got no inside knowledge.

London is conspicuous by it's absence from the city series pens:

Stockholm, Berlin, Madrid, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Athens, Shanghai.

And then they went off into squares:

Piazza Novona, Place de la Concorde.

Now, notice that the 'squares' are not in the same countries as the 'cities', and that my home town and country has been omitted, and yet it has a well known square. I would have thought they would have released this last year - as it was the bicentenary of the Nelson's victory over the French at Trafalgar, but as political correctness prevented a proper celebration (the naval commemorative battle was fought between the 'reds' and the 'blues'), this isn't surprising.

So, I'm saving up and eyeing my collection for some sacrificial goats.

Any other speculations?

Pelikan's next M620 is the Picadilly Circus so I doubt they'd do another London one. A Trafalgar would be good but, TBH, I don't think the French need another reminder (Olympics, food etc... biggrin.gif ).

BTW, Conway Stewart's Trafalgar LE was a big success for them.

Thanks Martin,

I didn't realise it had already been announced!!

Can you point me to more info?

Strange that you should answer this post, It was looking at the picture of the Shanghai on your site that made me think of this.

Well, it's probably just me, but the city series reached its peak in 2002 with the Madrid and the Stockholm, both of which are really goodlooking (to me at least.) After that it is all downhill with the Pelikan Place de la Concorde as a ... (OK, if you can;t say something positive... wink.gif

It is a matter of taste and I know many people do not agree with me (fundamentally in some cases,) but I am curious about the new addition to the series. Does anybody have some photo's of the new Pelikan?

If anybody at Pelikan reads this, how about a Red Square, e.g. black body with a red cap and silver trim. Red knop on the piston would be nice. I'll gladly test them in all available nib sizes smile.gif

I saw a link on "that other place" to the FPH page (the one that Denis gives in the post above). Nice looking pen.

Dunno where they got their pics although sometimes Pelikan let them out early. I remember we had a scoop on the M200 transparent colours when they came out only to find that the owner of another website nicked them (I could tell they were ours as the layout and cropping was unchanged).

BTW, there are no Shanghai left. By the time you read this the link will have been removed sad.gif.

Thanks for the links.

It looks interesting, but from the picture it looks a little too red, white, and blue 'Cool Brittannia'. Maybe I'll have to have a closer look or read someone else's reviews.

It might be when they went from the translucent marble to the opaque materials that it sort of changed for me. I was hoping maybe for a red or amber marble but instead got some interesting solid mixes.

And Black?
Looks to me like a swirl of left over colors instead.

No worry about staying up late at night dreaming about that one!

Though the translucent marble is my favourite, the picture of the Pelikan Piccadilly Circus does look nice IMO. It is defnitely better looking than the later city series and the earlier square series...

I think it's one that you'll need to see "in the flesh".

I like that they have used red, white and blue as the colours and the pattern has a 20s decoesque feel to it but I'm gonna want to see one.

I've always fancied a Chicago... but by the time I decided to buy one they'd all gone.

TWDPens - I love the look of the Trafalgar! I just wish is wasn't quiet so pricey sad.gif

I have not disliked any of their city series, but liked some more so than others the Piazza Navona is my absolute favorite no doubt about it!

I was just thinking that they need to have a "Red Square" model for Moscow! laugh.gif
London was sure a long time coming, but it's a nice looking pen...probably even nicer in person....

Wasn't the Place de la Concorde released very recently? I wonder if it is not selling well, prompting the early release of the Piccadilly Circus. Perhaps Pelikan is trying too hard to come with with new designs for the city series.

The mix of this types of blue and red can be hard on the eyes. To find out how hard, you can do simply create a background in that red and then that blue as a font color. You'll see the letters dancing around laugh.gif

I don't think thats it, they release designs for pens as they come up with them, and often have times when they release several models at once like this February and before with the epochs and place de la corda sp?
