Full Version: Gold Engraving, already wearing off: MB146

Two months ago I took my new 146 to the Montblanc store to get it personalized with my name. Initially, it looked great, but after a few short months all of the inlaid gold color has started to wear off. Now parts are gold and other parts are simply recessed into the black resin without the gold.

Is this usual?

Other than returning it to the MB store and have them redo it, does anyone have any thoughts as to how to do this yourself?

Thanks in advance,

Duke

Had this problem on a 146 myself. What I did in the end was actually paint over the inscription with a gloss model paint then after allowing to dry I sat and, with the use of my thumb nail, scraped the excess paint off the lettering. This also had the effect of actually filling the engraved trench so preventing other matter from covering the engraving. It has been fine sine.

You could try a craft Gold Wax stick. You can usually get them at craft stores. They look like gold crayons, but the consistency is more waxy. I have had some good results with this.
