Is there any chance that you'll have that pen with you in L.A? I'd like to see it up close as I'm curious as to how Paul made those end caps.

Hi Kevin,

Have you thought about the possibility of making a virtual museum of fountain pens? You and other distinguished fellows have such quantity and quality of pictures that it would be most interesting to see them all together and organized. I imagine it in the style of a Wikipedia, i.e., an open collaborative project. I think it would be a major contribution for the community.

Just a crazy idea before caffeine hits my veins.

The typical 149 has a black "precious" resin barrel. Mr. Rossi basically replaced the barrel with this crack ice material.

What kind of a price range are we looking at for some of his 149 modifications?

I belive they are Lex's photos and some of them have moved out of his collection, like to e.g. Kevin's cracked ice.

The one in the first photo only has 2 made, I believe one with Lambrou, and one with Lex.

The cracked ice 146 (first on the left in the 3rd photo) with Burgundy jewels is the one and only done by Rossi and according to Lex the first and last since he preferred to work with MB149 sizes.

The last photo was taken by Chris Burton when he was at the LA Show 2004. It was from Lambrous' tray, IIRC.

Could someone tell me a little bit more about the flattop version of the 149 versus the torpedo shape?

A little while back, there was a poll on pen shape preference. Seeing the two side by side has confirmed for me that I prefer the flat top look.

The 149 is a torpedo-shaped pen. Its predacessor, the 139, was a flat top pen. The idea with the flat top 149 was to mimic the 139 and Paul made flat end pieces for it.

I am surprised by the fact that these are not more popular amongst the FPN crowd. I think it's fantastic way to enhance your everyday mundane montblanc into something special and unique.
