I was asked today if there is just one ink that works for everything. I don't know of one, but I'm still fairly new. Does this "mythical, mystical" ink exist?

No. But that won't stop many of us from making suggestions.

I've found Richard Binder's essay "Inks: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly," available on his web site, to be useful in determining what I want from an ink. Turns out, what I want this week is something like Diamine's Prussian Blue.

Some folks find a black ink that they like and use it for everything, the very thought makes me very nervous!!! Give me color and lots of it!!!

Right now i'd go for legal lapis.

Dark enough to be formal, bulletproof and colorful enough to be interesting.

plus, the flow seems to be middle-of-the-road perfect

I would say it depends on how many "everythings" you need an ink to serve. The short answer is, of course, no, because you might want a waterproof ink for one thing, and a water-soluble ink for something else. These properties are mutually exclusive.
