Kind of happy to find this site. I have been using fountain pens since I was in elementary school. Friends and family always think I'm nuts for this obsession over stationery.

I'm from BC, Canada. Always have hard time finding a nice inexpensive place to by good stationery. I have never bought any stationery from internet yet, but I am planing to start that soon... Looking forward to chat with you guys.

Hello and welcome! Where are you located in BC? There's a few of us in the Vancouver area that get together (Vancouver Pen Club). Hope you can join us some day!

I like stationery but I never seem to actually use it...

Hey from the other ocean. Welcome to the group.

Hi and welcome from overseas too.
Congrats on the stationery number. I'm new here too and have spent a lot of time working on different inks, but I've lately "discovered" that (at least for me and my FPs) stationery plays an even greater role. So, I'm a slow learner.

I second the invitation....
Welcome to FPN! biggrin.gif

We don't plan to have another meeting of the Vancouver Pen Club until the Fall (September), but if you need the addresses of some good pen stores in the Vancouver area, feel free to send me a PM (Personal Message).

welcome to FPN,
lots of good resources right here in the Network if you're looking to buy...you may want to start with members who as you will see are dedicated "ink-noids".
Good luck and see on the boards.....Ontario

Welcome to the board and you're not crazy for using fountain pens. They work very well, are full of grace and style, and embody a level of class in the user not found among the rabble. Enjoy the board!

I have only used three different kind of ink in my life, and two of them are black rolleyes.gif . I'm definitely a slow learner in this area, but I'm eying on some Waterman ink.

thumbup.gif I moved out to North Van a couple of months ago, but I'm from Richmond too, and I still consider it home smile.gif

I don't know if you're into Moleskine notebooks, but Nikaido in Steveston does a sale twice a year where everything is 25% off, I think... They also have lots of delicious teas! Last time I was there I saw some pens in their front case, but I can't recall if they had any fountain pens.

Sadly, I don't think Richmond has too many other options for pen and paraphernalia...

As for ink and pens, I recommend Perks across from Oakridge Centre on Cambie. This is where the Vancouver Pen Club has been meeting the last couple of times. Richard the owner is super-nice and he carries Noodler's, Private Reserve, Waterman, and Lamy inks. He might have some other brands as well, I can't recall. He also has some stationery, although I haven't tried any of it yet.

I know there's a few places in Vancouver that carry some nice stationery and inks (Vancouver Pen Shop, Paper-Ya on Granville Island, Essence du Papier in the Sears at Pacific Centre) but yeah, you probably aren't going to get much of a deal on anything in these shops... I do try to support local brick and mortar shops, but in a case where a pen costs about $60 online and more than $100 in shop, we-ell...

Anyway, hope you have fun exploring the world of coloured ink! biggrin.gif

Another welcome here from a neighbor south of the border. Welcome to the FPN!

IMHO, the three essential colors of Waterman ink are:

Florida Blue
Purple/Violet
Havana Brown

Florida Blue is a great all-purpose blue ink.
Mix equal parts Florida Blue and Purple to get one of my favorite inks, "Binder Blurple".
Havana Brown is a standard that many people compare other brown inks to.

Others would include Blue-Black on the list, but that's a controversial topic that has been covered many times in the Inky Thoughts forum. Do a search and you'll find an exhaustively covered debate on the subject.

Sadly, I don't think Richmond has too many other options for pen and paraphernalia...

My husband and I were at the Nikaido shop a couple of weeks ago and they had Lamy fountain pens (the popular Safari models) and Faber-Castell pens (they were in the display case at the front by the till). I almost forgot about Nikaido until you mentioned it, goldkiwi smile.gif

Richmond also has a La Swiss pen & watch store in the Richmond Centre mall and they carry a few different brands of fountain pens, but nowhere near the selection of the Perks store near Oakridge Mall or the Vancouver Pen Shop (Charals in the Sinclair Center downtown has a good selection, too).
