Full Version: Pelikan T'evil Doer

Yesterday I had two bottles of Pelikan in front of me for filling two pens, and got them mixed up halfway through a filling (it was late at night). One was Violet, and one Red - so I ended up with a mix of Violet and Red, which has turned into a very pleasant indeed rosy brown.

It's quite purpley when wet, and dries a nice muted brown with rosy-purple tint... sort of like a very agéd black, which reminds me of old faded manuscript leases and legal documents. Very pleasing - I'll try to take some pictures at some point in the next couple of days. It's in a flex nib so it'll show up shading very well (which it has lots of).

By the way, "T'Evil doer" is an anagram of "violet Red". It was either that, or "Diet Lover" thumbup.gif

I'd love to see pictures; however, I have to say I'd be very concerned about the ink turing "rosy brown". Pelikan's Violet already leans toward the reddish side of violet, and adding Pelikan Red to it ought in my mind to produce a more magenta shade, rather than a brownish. It sounds as if a chemical reaction has taken place between the two sets of dyes. I haven't seen Pelikan Red in a long time, so perhaps it's possible that Pelikan Red leans more toward the yellow side of red, which could result in a more muted chroma value in that particular mix, but still, it makes me wonder how safe a combination that is.

[update] Apparently, the only scans of Pelikan Red here are a single review, in which the photos (not scans) look as if they need a large amount of color correction, so I can't judge how bluish or yellowish Pelikan Red might be.
