I don't know the history behind this, but I assume that he must have written it at some time, and it seemed appropriate to inscribe it on his memorial.

That's so clear and somehow "modern." Or maybe "timeless." The gradation in the double columned I -- I've never seen that. And the upright italic with with the joins... So much just to look at and contemplate... Thanks for posting.

Thank you SquelchB and Doug - your comments are appreciated, as ever.

With upright italic, I find that joins at about a 45 degree slope, help me in my attempt to maintain even inter-letter spacing - at least, that's my theory!
