Full Version: Renew point loaners?

I posted a WTT in the marketplace, but I thought this would not only get more traffic, but could perhaps be made more fun.

Renewpoints are one of my favourite features of the J series, but I've only tried three or four types out of the thirty or so there are. So I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice to have a trading system going round for everyone to try out renew points? Then I thought that the FPN community would be an ideal place to do this. happyberet.gif

It could be done in two ways:

1) By using a central thread to offer swaps and temporary exchanges. For instance, I could send my 9128 to someone and they could send me their 3234, and we could have a week of writing with them before sending them back. We've both experienced a new renew-point, and there's always the possibility that a trade would end up happeneing.

2) Have a roaming series of renew-points running round the world with a journal - like the loaner 51 of another thread. This is riskier, but definitely more fun. I imagine that if a few people wanted to join in, we could get together a collection of several units.
For this to work, it could either roam around a trusted circle, or operate with a central node, where each time the package would be sent from central node to the recipient, and from the recipient back to the central point so he could check that everything was in order, etc. This is just a fledgling idea, but it would be great fun to get it going. We could include a journal, and perhaps a J model to be the "home pen".

Is anyone else up for it? We could always start with a trial run and then move on. If you're interested stick a reply in, suggest type 1) or 2) - and why!

Edit: I'm in London, UK.

I think this is a great idea, and I would love to get the ball going with a contribution of nibs from my own stash.

If the point is to get the maximum number of nib options out to people so that they can check out what Esties have offer may I suggest two kinds of sets;

1) "overview" - set of stiff fine, medium, broad, flex fine, stub (just a representative of each from any series)

2) "narrowing down" - set of all offerings within a specific type (example; all firm mediums from all series with the exception of 3xxx, 8xxx or other rarities)

Just a thought.

2) is a good idea, but possibly difficult to implement? It would maybe be easiest to see what is up for donation and add things to the package as people join in. Unfortnately, this doesn't seem to get much traffic!
