Yesterday I went to an FP shop because I needed a little pen case ( for 2 FP)
Anyway, When I looked to some of the FP they had (Montblanc, Waterman, Shaeffer, Dupont, ...) I saw this Faber Castell.
For some reason I loved this FP !
The price seemed very reasonalbe to me.
What could I do, an acceptable price and a pen which looked very nice.
I've heard about the brand Faber Castell but not that much.
So please tell me, did I buy a good or even great pen or was it an impulsive buy which wasn't smart ... Anyway, the little pen case I needed (for 2 Montblancs) became one for 3 FP's because the Faber Castell went home with me

It's a parquet finish e-motion and Faber are a great brand.
The short and simple answer is, if you are happy with it at the price that you paid then it's a good deal.
For what it's worth, I think they are wonderful pens and I really like that finish...

I don't own one, only some F-C ballpoints, but have heard good things about them in general. That looks like a lovely pen! I think some of the newest designs they have released in the eMotion series have that leather look crosshatch pattern.
Some people don't like metal sections/grips...some do. Matter of taste.
I think a nice alternative to your Montblancs...more modern looking...seems like a good direction to go!

I had an E-Motion very similar to yours. Very nice pen, with an excellent steel nib and great fit and finish. You did well!

Faber Castell is a great company that makes fountain pens, pencils and art supplies; it has been functional since 1761. I have a Faber Castell Ambition in black brushed resin (pic above) and several friends of mine have the more luxurious Guilloche. My Ambition was one of the first "nice" pens I coveted. It is an extremely well-made, comfortable and reliable pen, a real workhorse.
The e-motions in parquet are great looking, and are always in my peripheral vision. It is certainly one of the more unique designs in pen-dom, and I think particularly the cap is super-cool.
Enjoy yours!

ooooh!....
That sure trumps my stopping by the shops that sell them here in Vienna and gazing endlessly, happy that I can at least see so many of them here (unlike where I normally live in the US) !

I have never had a F-C fountain pen, but I have loved all my FC colored pencils.

My story is rather similar to yours- bought a e-motion faber castell in brown wood on impulse..it justed looked too good and classy! I ve been using it for a couple of months now. Thankfuly it writes rather well. The problem is that i find it too heavy for everyday use and irritating to unscrew the cap. The cap is so heavy that you cannot even dream of caping it to the end while writing.
I have reconciled to using it infrequently now- i admire it more for its looks than its writing might!

I have the same black parquet Emotion. Bought it on impulse, just as you did.
Glassy smooth and wet - just what I like in a pen.
I liked it so much I went back and bought the same pen in the white crocodile leather.
Great pens. Gotta love that German engineering.

Its a good old (very old) company, they make many products, excellant pencils and some wonderful pens, the model you have is one of the first FPs I considered getting for a long while, could not find the size nib I wanted however, sill like the look of the pen though. Well done.

It's a very old company for any kind of writing instruments and art supplies.
Have two vintage fountainpens that perform nice and reliable

The e-motion in pearwood was my first pen.
From an esthetic point of view it is a marvelous pen. However I too found it uncomfortable (heavy) to write with and this pen showed me that I don` like metal sections

.
It writes smoothly and perfectly.

I love, love LOVE Faber-Castell pens, particularly the Graf Von Faber Castell ones. Even though I'm new to the scene, I am hoping to own a few shortly.
My mid-term WANT is a Classic Pernambuco Fountain (F). I tried one out the other day and it was lovely. Soon it will be mine. Oh yes, it will be.
So from my perspective, you bought a great pen, watchlover!

All I can do is add to the kudos for F-C. I have several of their lesser expensive writing instruments, and all of them are of excellent quality. I have never had a problem with any of them, and I will not hesitate to buy more if/when the occasion arises. I only wish MB would learn from this quality company.

One other useful comment I can add, is that in my experience, Faber Castell, Caran d'Ache, and Yard o Led are the most non-temperamental and reliable brands in current FP production. There is no wondering if the pen will write out of the box: It will. There is no anxiety over whether the nib will be scratchy, or whether there will be skipping, or drying out: No, no, and no. Also, the brands I mentioned are extremely tolerant in terms of what kind of ink you feed them. My Faber-Castell Ambition has not yet met an ink that it considered a "problem ink".
In a market where we are increasingly beginning to think it is normal to pay $500+ for a pen that has nib/feed/heavens-knows-what-else issues and needs to be worked on by a professional before it can be functional, to discover pens like these is rather refreshing.

Hmmm, I seem to have found a problem ink for my FC E Motion. It really really doesn't like MB ink (blue). I was about to send it away to them to get it fixed, when I tried a Waterman ink. Now it writes beautifully.
I must agree that FC makes nice pens. Reliable, and darn pretty looking!

Oops, looks like I spoke too fast. Sorry to hear that. I've never tried my FC with MB blue, simply because I hate the colour of standard blues. But I've used it with MB Racing Green and Burgundy, no probs. Mostly though, I use it with Noodler's and Herbin.

I have the same FC pen QM2 posted a picture of... It's a great pen. A bit of a wide line for my taste, but very reliable and smooth. In fact, I just pulled mine out after leaving it inked and unused in a drawer for 3 months, and after a couple of taps on the nib it started writing perfectly again...

What a great statement the above is !!!!!
Having just discovered the skills of a nib master I do still scratch my head and ask 'why should I need to have this pen tweaked'........
Anway I have limited experience of Faber-Castell but I do have a good friend who has a number of these and has found them to be a fantastic pen which he works hard daily with no 'common' faults.
I hate it when people say " yes my .......... pen also does that " yes but costing £500+ it bloody well shouldnt !
