I'm starting to list some items for sale on ebay, but it wants my phone number to "call and verify" me.

Does everyone have to do this?

Sounds like a scam.

eBay doesn't have my phone number.

hmmm, the page seems legit, I wonder if this is a new change.

The option is to have them call me now or in two minutes..... I'm confused!

EDIT : I didn't give ebay my checking account info, wonder if that's it???

I was asked for a phone number only when I wanted to add a PayPal account....to verify that my address was/is genuine.

I think it was Paypal who asked for my telephone number, as part of the process of having a verified address. Having said that, the system didn't work and they sent me a letter with a code to enter that worked.

Thanks all....

I'm not selling a pen on ebay, that would be heresy!

My wife and I are selling other stuff, we decided to downsize everything and keep only the truly important things, so ebay, here we come.

I contacted ebay via "live chat" and that worked surprising well, I was able to talk to someone about why this was coming up, and it turns out I put a fake phone number in my profile blush.gif . The person told me I really shouldn't have been able to post a credit card or pay pal info with that fake number there, but said sometimes it happens. Before I could sell I would have to "get the phone call".

So I pushed the call me button with "call me now" selected, and a millisecond later, the phone rang, it was like something from "The Matrix" biggrin.gif but it gave me the code, and I was on my way.

Thanks for the responses!
