Dear FPN Colleagues,

I purchased a New Sheaffer Legacy from Todd Nussbaum at isellpens.com. It is a gorgeous writer and at the time I did notice a 'purple haze' about half a centimetre in diametre on the left side of the nib ( right below the sheaffer stamp - where the 18k imprint and circle are) - it appears to be entirely aesthetic and does not affect the performance of the pen ( pictures attached ).

But it is starting to become irritating to look at......I don't know if this is a blemish or the start of something sinister ( corrosion / tarnish ? ) of the 18K Gold....

Is this easy to remove or anything to worry about ?....what do I need to do ?

It was shipped over to the United Kingdom as New Old Stock Sheaffer Legacy....so shipping it back could be expensive.......i have yet to tell Todd about it....

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks,

kavanagh

That stain looks a lot like some dried (probably permanent) ink. Did you use any kind of black or purple ink in the pen? I have seen vintage pens with such discoloration on the nib. In all cases I could wipe it off in a few seconds with dab of toothpaste on a piece of wet cotton.

Dear rlukcs,

I forgot to mention - any spots that you see above the Sheaffer Stamp are ink spots. I still don't know how or why a purple haze should be present on the nib....it was already present when I opened the pen for the first time.....toothpaste and wet cotton - I don't know if I should try that.....

Thanks,

If you were to use toothpaste or a metal polish, it might be well to mask the plastic with adhesive tape so that it didn't get scratched.
