Hey folks,

I recently received a Lamy 2000 EF nib unit as a replacement for my too-wide F. I tried screwing in the whole replacement section, which resulted in a pen that would not write at all. What could possibly be the issue? As a simple solution, I ultimately took the F nib out of my old section, but the EF nib in its place, and screwed in the old section. Viola! The new nib and feed in the old section worked perfectly. Which leads me to speculate that the hood on the EF nib was too tight for proper flow. The bottom part of the hood (near the breather hole) could have been improperly cut or something like that.

Question is, how does one go about *fixing* a 2000 hood with these problems? since they are made out of metal, you certainly can't heat and reshape them like you could a 51 hood. I know Lamy would probably replace it for free, but since I don't exactly NEED it replaced, I might as well tinker with it. smile.gif

Just to be certain that you've isolated the problem, take your old nib and place it in your new replacement section and see how that writes. That may seem kind of silly, but it's possible that the alignment of the nib with the feed channel may have been off and when you put your new nib in your old section, you fixed the problem without really knowing what the problem was.

Anyway, if your old nib in the new section won't write, start looking at the collector and feed to see if there's a blockage of some sort. Even if the hood has pushed the nib down really tight against the feed, I would still expect to see some ink flow. Well, hope that helps, but it may not; it's been awhile since I've looked that closely at a Lamy 2K. Good luck!
