Hi all,

Have a B-day coming up. Instead of getting a pen (of which I'm very picky!) I suggested to my wife that she get me a Fountain pen reference, preferably Montblanc. I gave her the names "The Montblanc Diary and Collectors Guide", and "Collectible Stars"..both by Jens Rosler.

We could find "Collectible Stars" at nibs.com. The MB Diary...is definitely not around. I've seen a few on Ebay occasionally...some in Spanish, but I need an English version. Was this a limited production book? Is it already out of print? It was published in 1993, so its not "vintage". Why is it so hard to find? What is a current price for such a hard to find book? I've searched the threads here at FPN, but those just confirm that the book is hard to find.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Rick,

The first book, "The Montblanc Diary and Collectors Guide", covers the years from 1908 to WW2 (about 1948). And YES, it is very hard to find!
First launch was in 1993 and was sold out within a short time. The reprint was made in 1996 or 1997 and it was also sold out very quickly. These two prints came in English, I have no idea when the Spanish print was made and who authorized it. The actuell sales price for one of the still sealed English books is around 200.00 to 300.00 US$ today - and it's worth every Cent!

If you would come to one of the German Pen Shows I might sell you a sealed "Montblanc Diary and Collectors Guide" for 200.00 Euro. Sorry, but I don't ship overseas.

The second book, "Collectible Stars", covers the years from past WW2 up to the 1970'. It is not far as valuable as the first book but still a usefull Montblanc guide and still available from the authors.

Of course both books don't list the complete inventory of the Montblanc production. I have records about pens (and real examples) which are not listed in the books, but still the books are more complete as any other book on Montblanc.

Best regards,
Axel

Axel,

Thanks for the expert insight, once again! The search for the "Diary" will continue for now.

Doubt I'll be in Germany soon...though I could hitch a ride with my brother in-law who is a Delta international pilot...they fly to Berlin and Frankfort. If I ever get there I'm sure a side trip to Hamburg and the factory would be in order.

Thanks again,

Rick
