So the "300" imprint on one of my pen barrels is NOT the model number?

It may well be, as we are only discussing Sheaffers and your pen is probably not a Sheaffer; I can't recall a Sheaffer pen priced at $3.00 that had a price number imprint. So the "300" imprint on one of my pen barrels is NOT the model number?

The quote of course does not indicate that a a price number imprint of 300 or other stamp of "300" was not recalled, but specifically that a Sheaffer pen priced at $3 which had a price number imprint was not recalled. Still, i infer from this that an isolated "300" (price coe or other code) on a Sheaffer was not seen by the writer, independent of other issues surrounding price or model number etc, but I am willing to be corrected on this point.

Still, it seems this now provides fodder for some Sheaffer revelation. Fun hobby wink.gif

David,
Is that piece of metal there to make sure it remains tight inside the holder?

Actually my pen with the "300" imprint is a Sheaffer - a brown lever filler with a Feathertouch 5 nib. I started the thread about Sheaffers in the Sheaffer forum so of course I was talking about another Sheaffer pen.

Here's a pic:

Yes, it is part of a "locking" mechanism. Check out Roger Wooten's writeup on these:

I'm trying to pin down issue date of this desk pen (the base is sitting around too). This is i believe the first of this sort opaque green i've seen. The #3 nib argues (and is swappable part) for Balance era, but color seems... later. It is the first "stapled" DP i've seen.

The pen is as found in the wild maybe 10 or 15 years ago.

That it has the right desk base (and socket) only adds charm

To clarify, I meant that I can't recall a Sheaffer pocket pen priced at $3.00 that had a price number imprint of '300'.

I believe the imprint is '500'. That error would explain the confusion.

It's a G3D circa 1935-'36.

Ah, "pocket" could well make a diff. 1935-6? Celluloid then?

Daniel,
Unfortunately I can't check the pen itself because I've already sold it!

I have one of those stapled dek pens without the 300 imprint on the barrel. I had sent it off to SMG for repair and we bothe puzzled about what the heck that thing was.

thanks for the new info.

Can you ask the new owner to check?

The new owner just checked and the imprint is 500, not 300.
