Hi

I need some help understanding the nib widths of both the Sailor Togi M and M-F (perhaps this is more accurately called the FM or FineMedium?), especially the M-F. It is my experience that most Japanese nibs run a size smaller than typical nibs, so a Japanese medium is more like most fine nibs. I was told that the Sailor Togi M was close to, if not in fact, a regular medium. Is that true? What about the Togi M-F - does this mean that it runs to the fine side of a normal medium or is it closer to a typical fine or extra-fine? Any other common nib widths that I could use as a benchmark to compare these to - for example, a Pelikan F or M or some other pen that I might have in my collection?

Help please? And thank you!

MikeW

PS. I noted that John Mottishaw's site shows a Sailor M-F as being .36mm which is less than a Pelikan or Omas fine. I don't know whether what Togi does affects this size up or down?

PPS. I should also note that I have seen conflicting posts on the Togi FM here. One says wider than most mediums, other says like a fine.

Can't somebody help me out on this one??

The Naginata-togi nibs are definitely wider than normal Sailor nibs... I have the Naginata MF, and would say it is equivalent to a normal M (or around a Japanese cool.gif.

I´m from Spain and my English isn´t perfect.

You said that you have the NMF nib (N for Naginata, M for Medium and F for Fine) so your nib would be into the range "from Fine to Medium" (we can say it´s a wider fine or a narrower medium). If you say that it´s equivalent to a normal M you are saying that the nib is narrow because M is always wider that MF.

I have the Sailor 1911 ribbed body Naginata-togi MF and the nib is equivalent to a normal F (Parker Duofold, Waterman Sérénité).

I´m not sure if I understood something wrong.

Sorry for my bad english.

What I meant is that it writes like a non-japanese medium, or closer to a japanese broad. The cool.gif emoticon was a typo, I was saying japanese B.

I have made a small writing sample of all five pens that are inked at this moment. The Naginata MF nib is the middle one. Ruud

MikeW
Thanks for the writing samples Ruud, you have helped confirm my decision. Now, if the pen would only get here!!
