Hello all. I subscribed here after a fountain pen hiatus of about 15 years during which the only fountain pen I had was a MB Starwalker (rubber/metal) which my wife bought as a wedding present some years ago and which I dropped and broke soon after I received it.

I discovered this forum about a week ago and in the last week I have acquired a Stipula LA91, Lamy 2000, Pilot VP and Pilot Fermo along with 4 bottles of Noodler's ink. My fingers are stained black and blue and I'm loving it. Thank you for bringing me back the nostalgia of my school days (where biros were forbidden and everything had to be written by fountain pen).

Now I'm hunting for a murex, some cheap demonstrators, more ink and would love a retractable MB Boheme.

Once you step down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. Consume you, it will...

Yep assimilation is complete! The dark force will now rule you forever. So Pen long and prosper!

Welcome from further down the slippery slope!

(The La91 is soooo cute!)

Bad forum. I know what you mean.
Welcome Siv, to this sea of ink and pens and paper in which we're all drowning together!
Ain't it grand? thumbup.gif

Welcome to the FPN Vortex!

I can't say anything about your dropping your StarWalker (although I have not dropped mine...), cos I lost a FP & BP pair of MB Bohemes in a leather case. Sigh.

How's the Stipula LA91 working for you? I've heard that it tends to dry out (Deirdre?), but it's so appealingly little, and it has that mechanism for the nib.... I've resisted so far....

Um... you seem well-prepared for joining the fray, so I'll just say... good luck!

Wow! You started out fast - good job! It took me a while longer to do as well as you are already! biggrin.gif

You look much younger than what your post suggests.............married ohmy.gif ............seems more like child marriage...........is it legal at your age?

Anyways welcome to FPN.

The LA91 is a nice pen and I haven't had any problems with it drying out (though I've only had it a week and use it every day). It has the gold nib, not the titanium, and writes pretty well with supplied Stipula ink cartridges. I don't know how some people manage to open it with one hand - maybe mine is still a bit stiff - but it's certainly nice to play with and it extends with a satisfying click. It's a bit heavy to carry around in your pocket so I think it's going to live on my desk.

My only frustrations with it are that you can't use a converter (syringe time) and I have lost one of the rubber rings that go around the ring to increase grip.

In my case, I think the door on mine might need tweaking. If I let it sit overnight, it's a hard starter.

Hello and welcome to the Fountain Pen Nuthouse.

Welcome to the obsession. I'm assuming you've found Dromgoole's in Rice Village? And there is the Lone Star Pen Club that meets occasionally in that general area. Nice folks with some notable pen collectors in the crowd.
I used to travel to Houston a lot on business and managed to make one of their meetings - they were very welcoming to the stranger with a fp.

Have fun!

No, I've not found Dromgoole's but I will be making my way there very soon! Thanks for the pointer.

I would very much like to know if there will be pen shows in Houston. Where can I find out about such things?

Wait until you discover custom ground nibs and vintage flex nibs. thumbup.gif

I left mine in the office upright over the long weekend and sure enough, it dried up. Maybe keeping it horizontal may help?

Yup, I have only joined for awhile, and I already feel the force.

Welcome to FPN, Siv. I live up north of you and really enjoy FPN. The info is good and the members are better. We all understand your affliction with wanting to gather in as many pens as you can. Keep up the good work; those pens deserve a loving and caring owner.
Ellen
Welcome at FPN! My story is almost the same as yours; within seconds I just wanted five different pens and inks (and that's only the start)...

It's the same with any hobby and any forum..
I've had an obsession with headphones a while back. At www.head-fi.com (don't go there; within a week you'll be filling your fountainpen while listening to a DAP with an amp and expensive headphones headsmack.gif ) they always greet new members with the slogan: "Welcome to head-fi and sorry for your wallet!" It could be the slogan for any forum I think!!

yes - bad influence has already crossed my mind as a warning that should come up as I click to enter.......

since fiding a long since forgotten about dispossible FP ( I know I'm sorry, I'm sorry) last week and remembering how delicious note taking can be with the right instrument I have turned the house upside down and collected my sad but soulful collection of FP's from my many many years of pen fancying (a few rotrings, the odd parker all cheap and cheerful in their time). Needing to add to the little family I searched ebay then the web and found the review section here - I now have a Lamy Al-star, Safari a new Rotring skynn and am awaiting the delivery of a waterman kultur, a roting initial, a crocodile (could't resist the box), 3 new nibs, around 4 ink colours and am swaying over the newton 600 in copper, a parker 51 and a mont blonc (a dreamtime sway for the moment) - a frontier, an IM and a freeway.......

not to mention the advice I have already had from these lovely people making me realise I have to (for the sake of my health) own a wooden barreled FP of some description and a taccio.........

and all that on a student budget - me thinks i will be eating lighter this year laugh.gif
