Hi James,

Thank you for sharing those beautiful exemplars, and the poetry for that matter.

Although you expressed the feeling that your writing might suffer because you're getting on in age, I can't see it. Those from now to me look just as beautiful as the ones from a few years back, or any of even earlier exemplars by your hand I happened to have the pleasure to see!

Warm regards, Wim

Hi Wim,

Thank you for the kind words. The trouble is I fret over the quality of my writing for, as with most craftsmen I know, I am super critical of my work -- seeing errors that maybe others don't see.

I return your warm regards, Wim.

These exemplars are not intended as display calligraphy, but rather illustrations of how Italic handwriting, employing fountain pens, can be used for informally rendering poetry and prose -- as attachments to notes and correspondence sent to loved ones, sweethearts, etc.

My main interest is in practical handwriting that can be used in everday pursuits such as regular correspondence, journal entries, etc.

Hello James,

Have you seen that Corien is offering a service to convert handwriting into a font file in The Marketplace?

We all need to pay to have you do an example that she can create as a font, then we can all use your wonderful characters eureka.gif

Technology rolls on and on.

You could write in Aramaic (which I wouldn't understand) and it would still be poetry to me.

Hi James.

How nice to see your work again.

My favorite variation of the Ogden Nash poem is:

While walking on the beach one day
A tern I spotted in the sky
The tern, he turned and spotted me
He spotted the best suit I owned
Now I don't leave a tern unstoned

Regards,
Hank
