I'm interested in acquiring one or more stub nibs for my Estie. I haven't seen them individually on ebay and haven't found them elsewhere. If you have a source or a spare I'd be interested.

The numbers I'm aware of are:
1314
2284
3312
9284
9314

My tastes run toward medium and broad nibs but I'd "settle" for a fine if that was all I could get.

BTW, I've been pronouncing Esterbrook so the Est rhymes with nest. My wife insists that it rhymes with east.

We've been married almost 25 years so we have been through this sort of thing before but both of us have agreed to accept the pronunciation of the experts on the Esterbrook Forum.

That is YOU!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I've always pronounced it like the lady's name and a small stream.

Ester + brook.

1. I've always heard it pronounced "[N]Esterbrook". This includes my mother who owned one in high school. I don't know if your marriage will be saved, but at least you will have been right.

2. Good luck finding those nibs. They are fairly rare. I've seen a 1314 and a 2284 myself, but never the other three. Get them where you can find them, even if it means bidding on a lot of nibs one Ebay.

I pronounce it Est like nest.

Andy-

Good like finding those nibs. the 1314 is especially hard to find. Your best bet (if you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for mint-in-the-box) would be to search ebay until you find them. You'll find 2284/9284/9314 that way, but 3312 will be harder. For some reason, I've seen 3312's more prevalent in England than anywhere else. Even if you have to buy a cruddy parts pen just for the nib, it might be worth it.

Andy--honest, I just saw this thread--responding now wasn't an attempt to wait and save your marriage on Valentine's Day! biggrin.gif BTW, for me Est rhymes with "west," too.

If you scroll down to Feb. 9th on the Pentrace Green Board PT Green Board you'll find that Carmen Rivera listed Esterbrook 3312 nibs for sale. It doesn't appear that they are all sold. They are rather expensive (as are 2312 & 9312 nibs when you see them.)

I have some 2312 med. italic nibs that I just love.

Good luck,
Ann

Thanks Ann,

I did find some stubs a while back and they are fun, fun, fun.

I don't celebrate St. Valentine's Day so no biggie even if you were skulking about to jump in at the most opportune time. smile.gif

All good wishes,

Andy

Est as in nest but then I talk weird anyway, being from the UK...
