I have a chance to buy a Maroon PFM V FP and pencil set NIB for $160.00 and a black PFM V FP and ballpoint NIB for $140.00 and I know little about Sheaffers. I bid them in on E-bay and got a second chance offer on both sets. I have about 18 hours to make up my mind. Can someone please help me with my decision? I liked the looks of the set and bought a like set to the Maroon (only it is listed as over size) two days ago but await delivery so I do not know if I would even like the way they write. thank you, chuck cochran

Chuck -

For starters, I do not have PFM V (yet) however, do you have a link to the eBay sale(s)? That might go a long way into getting an answer.

John: we are neighbors! I live in suffield. the listings are closed to bidding. The bidding ended about 5 or 6 hours ago. the pens are coming from asia though. I have a number of books which I use to help me but I have never purchased much more than a few eversharp skyliners and I am new to Fountain Pens. chuck

Chuck,

I am no expert on any of this, but one question - Where is the seller located?

There was a large thread the other day started by Speerbob warning us of less than honorable sellers of pens like these located in Asia.

Where are the sellers located? The consensus seemed to be buy only from sellers that had really large positive feedback numbers.

Just make sure they are not from Thailand.

If the seller is legit and the pens are in the condition described, then these are great deals.

The deals are so great, I suspect that are too good to be true.

Gene: Bandkok, Thailand. It looks like I really made a mistake on the two earlier purchases of a PFM V and a Legacy to the tune of about $230.00. Well I guess I will just have to wait and see on those two purchases but I am probably in trouble. I will not be purchasing the other two sets though. When I missed the bid on the first set they sent me a second chance offer and I felt lucky. When they sent me the two new second chance offers after the second round of bidding today I smelled a rat and came to this site for some advice. I do thank you guys for helping me out in this and wish I had come on this site the other day before I started bidding up those other two pens. chuck cochran

I'm glad we were able to help you catch on to the scam (which this surely is). Report this seller to eBay immediately if possible and get them to do something. You NEVER would see a PFM V set close that low, and if it did, the bidder would be crazy not to pony up the cash. Definitely too good to be true.

Folks: update to the saga of the Thai PFM purchase. For some reason E-bay put the purchase payment for the PFM V on hold and I promptly cancelled it out this morning. Evidently I had forgotten to pay for the Legacy yet so I just did not. I wrote to seller and told him if he would send me the goods for my review I would see that he was paid if they were acceptable. I told him to send the two second chances under the same conditions. That is a far shot but at least it gives the guy the chance to prove out his character. If he shows well I will let everyone know, that is if I can tell the difference between a knock-off and the real McCoy. I really do not think I need worry he would take up my offer but who knows. Again, I think I may need to go back to my skyliners until I get a little more savvy in this. I sure was looking forward to putting ink in that big PFM and burning up some paper but no way am I paying FMV for such a pen so early in my FP childhood. Oh well, that is my newby FP habit raising its head again. I did contact both pay/pal and e-bay and let them know what I have done and why. Thanks for all the help it looks like all that I will be bleeding in this matter will be blue ink and time. thanks again, chuck cochran

I agree. I have bought a couple of pens from Thailand and they were garbage. Avoid it!
