Greetings! I've been lurking here for a little while learning about Esterbrook fountain pens. I've had one for years that I got from a relative and used on and off. Recently while I was using it, it quit working, so I hopped on the internet to learn more about it and discovered this forum. From what I've found online, it seems that my pen is a blue Esterbrook CH with a 9556 nib, and the sac has failed. Now I'm trying to decide if I'm brave enough to try repairing it myself, as I would hate to ruin it. I really like this pen, and don't see a any modern pens that catch my eye, so I'm thinking about buying another Esterbrook J series for now, while I decide what to do about my little blue pen. This is a great forum and I'm glad to have discovered it.

Welcome!

Sorry to hear your Estie is failing. The good news is, that's apparently one of the easiest repairs you can make yourself. Lots of places sell the supplies and have how-tos you can follow. More good news, it's also one of the cheaper repairs you can pay someone else to make.

If you like the Esterbrook J series, take a look at some of the older Sheaffer pens (Balance, etc). They have a similar look, to my mind.

I just started collecting vintage pens recently. I have more on my list, but for now I have a Wahl-Eversharp Symphony

Thanks for the tips, Songwind. And I will definitely check out the pens you suggested.
