On behalf of a friend (I can only wish I owned a MB), I was wondering if there was a converter for the starwalker. He said that he called the MB Boutique, but that they were less than knowledgeable about the pens, and just told him that the pens utilized a cartridge system, and used liquid ink (no, really? I would never have guessed...).
Anyway, any answers would be appreciated, as he is sick of buying the cartridges and wants to use bottled ink.

nkk,
Believe you're looking for this MB piston converter:
http://www.fahrneyspens.com/Item--i-03CNShould fit any MB cartridge pen.

Just take the MB converter and screw the piston so that it is closest to the opening (ie. the converter won't hold any liquid.) Then use a razor blade to cut off enough of the handle (black part) so that the converter fits in the pen. This technique works for my 144 that takes the old style of MB convertor.
good luck.

Thanks. I will have to remember that, too, so that when I get an MB starwalker, I can do that.
Just out of curiousity, what pens does MB have that are piston fillers? Just the 146, 149, ect. Meisterstuck like?

I forgot to mention that the width of the converter must clear the barrel, but the method I mention will allow the handle part to clear better in the barrel.

Does the regular MB converter have a width that clears the barrel?

Hi, someone correct me if I am wrong, but I dont think the regular converter with fit the starwalker. Once again, I hope I am wrong, because maybe it was just my converter that would not fit. I have a starwalker grid and I have a few MB converters, from various acquisitions, and non of them fit.
I do hope someone correct me, because I would love to use bottle ink for it!

I believe there is an old style Mont Blanc converter that apparently fits. If you go to a boutique, they will tell you that the Starwalker will not take converters. I also heard rumblings about the different Starwalkers having different widths, and that some of the converts from other manufacturers will fit a MB (ie. Visconti). Anyone confirm this?

If the "old style" MB converter would fit, then certainly try a Pelikan converter. The Pelikan one is the size of two Standard International cartridges laid back-to-back, which are the same size cartridges that MB uses.

I have tried the smallest Waterman converter - suggested by TWD as a possibility - and it did not fit. They kindly suggested I could return it for a refund as it was unused, but I have found it a home elsewhere.
I believe, but do not know for sure, that this is similar in size to the Pelikan.
The problem with the Waterman was not that it would not fit in the barrel - it did - but that it would not stay attached to the nipple at the back of the section. I presume the hole in the converter is larger than the diameter on the nipple.
So, the search continues - though I am becoming less fond of the great blobby cap!

Hello everyone.
I agree with Kalessin. I haven't tried the old MB converter, but I have tried the Pelikan, and it works fine.

Greetings to everyone.
This is my first post. I apologize that it comes before I have introduced myself; I will rectify this soon.
I am a MB fan and owner of three Starwalker FPs. I have used a Dupont converter in my Starwalker for over 3 years without issue. I should also note that I use cartridges in my other Starwalkers I due to the utility of having a back-up ink reserve when I am away from my office for an extended period of time. I hope this helps.
This is a great forum. Thank you for the opportunity to participate.

There's been more than one converter design used by MB over the years. The current one with threads where the converter goes into the gripping section, doesn't fit all MB pens (especially vintage MB cartridge/converter pens), though it is pretty nice-looking.
Pelikan, Dupont, and some other makers do make converters that fit where a Standard International converter fits, which means they'll fit MB pens that can handle a full-length converter.
