Hello to all!

I have been browsing the forum for a few days now and I am close to buying my first decent fountain pen.

I have been eying up Pelikans with a preferance for the M800. I tried one out tonight with an M1000 and I suspect they are a little too large for me though unfortunately they did not have an M600 for comparison.

I have heard a lot about the Lamy 2000 and tried that too although despite feeling great quality it somehow did not write smoothly enough for me.

I'm thinking of just going for the M600 as if it is slightly smaller than the M800 then it will be perfect.

I'll re-post in the Pelikan forum as I have a little more to say rolleyes.gif

Hi there! Where I live here in Krautland isn't all that far away but I have spent some time at Nottingham University which is even closer.
Welcome to the club!
If you're looking fo an FP-"staple" then try out the Pelikan M 800 too. The M 600 seems to be the "hit" here in this country, all of the Ms between 400 and 800 are hot on the net here but for large hands the 1000 and, ahhh, I dunno, the 200 for small hands? are always present as re discussion here on the forum. I just bought an 800 and find it great. But still less great than my Waterman Charleston or any of my Parkers. Oops... now we're getting into discussions already.

Lot o' luck here!!

Hi Jacob and welcome to the FPN! biggrin.gif THe Pelikan M600 is a very nice choice. What nib size are you thinking about ordering?

Greetings and welcome to FPN Jacob.
Hope you enjoy the forum and best of luck on your quest for the perfect Pelikan. Sounds like fun.

Hello to you in Manchester.
Welcome to the forum. I'm afraid that I can't comment on Pelikams because I don't have one. I hope you find a pen that you like very soon. Try the Pen SHop on King Street - I wouldn't waste your time with the one in Kendals though.

I'm thinking of ordering the Fine nib though I wonder how this would compare with my parker (cheap SS made in UK) as I am just about happy with the thickness of the line at about 0.5mm.

I am seriously tempted by the M625 which Pam has for $395 with a fine nib but after reading the reviews on here I am not sure whether the weight and metal sections would annoy me. (I do like the warmth and cap tightness of the plastic? versions if not the aesthetics).

Decisions decisions.

P.s. Pen Shop in Kendals have no Pelikans, King Street do but I cannot get there before 5.30 and do not work in town rolleyes.gif

Welcome!

I have an M200 with a fine nib, and I would say it's very similar to the line laid down by a .5mm pencil, so you are probably good to go there. I just got my first M600 from Richard Binder with an Cursive Italic nib. It's a sweet writing machine. It's nicely in between the 800 and the 400 in size.

Glad to have you aboard,
Eric

Thanks Eric

I dare not even consider cursive, stub or italic nibs as I have never written with anything other than a Parker!

One day for sure if I can keep this new mild obsession hidden from the 'dearest'

I am really, really keen on the M625 but is it too risky buying it blind as there is NOWHERE in the immediate vicinity for me to test drive it.

Oh dear what will I do... headsmack.gif

I like the looks of the 625 series as well, but they were just too expensive for my budget.

Hello Jacob

Welcome to FPN. Always nice to see another Brit on the site biggrin.gif

Can't help you with the choice of Pelikan pens as I have never used one. My pen of choice is a Waterman Carene and that is a thing of beauty to look at and to use.

You seem to be getting some good advice from other members so I wish you luck with whichever model you choose

Best wishes

David
