Full Version: Integrated fill systems
The Fountain Pen Network > Creative Expressions > Pen Turning and Making

This point of curiosity actually arises from a review of one of Brian Gray's pens in the Reviews forum, and a comment I made there.

Has anyone here built a pen with an integrated fill system? What kind? Is it hugely difficult?

My " PF Tribute", being a tribute to the Sheaffer vac-fill features an improved integrated "plunger fill" system;
You can read all about two versions , being a transparent demonstrator & a red swirled ebonite version -earlier on this forum.
In the meantime there are several new versions coming on.
Making an efficient working & dependable filling system surely withholds new challenges.
Lets say its difficult but not hugely difficult with a good lathe & if one can make the neccesary tooling !
It surely takes a lot of preparation in designing & drawing the assembly & the parts
I aim to make a screw piston filler pen in the near future, a new challenge for me !

Dan Furlano (dfurlano here at FPN) has made button fillers. Search for his posts, and you'll see his stuff.

I have plans for eyedroppers and button fillers, but my job has been plenty hectic lately, and my pen time has been keeping up on orders, and not creating new stuff.

But honestly, Fountainbel's plunger filler is a phenomenal feat for a custom penmaker...WONDERFUL pen.

I quite underestimated the degree to which I would be spoiled by the piston fillers and lever filler I have acquired. I'd be very excited to see a Button Filler from Edison pens. As I said in the review I mentioned, I think your pens would look very "right" with a crescent or lever fill system, also. Those would fit right in with the vintage look of the ebonite.

Wow. That is a GORGEOUS pen. I really like the demonstrator, though a nice green ebonite would be high on my wish list, too. I guess I get added to the list of people watching the forum for you to put them on sale. smile.gif

If you are interestes in custom crescent fillers, Bruno Corsini recently made one of the most AMAZING crescents that I've ever seen.

I don't think that he'll mind my posting a pic of it.

If I'm not mistaken, everything except the crescent and nib are made from scratch....no easy feat!

I'll make him aware of this thread, and see if he cares to comment.

Brian just pointed me to this thread. Thanks for the nice words!

To correct a bit... I also make the crescent by hand. The really tricky part is the lock ring.

I also do button fillers and pneumatic fillers.
