Full Version: Varying length on Esterbrook J bars?

Hello,

I'm going to be buying some J bars for three Esterbrooks that I have. However, it's not entirely certain their length. I've seen prior posts where they suggest the 54mm J bars sold at Tryphon are just fine. And while that appears to match the length on the J bar I extracted from a Dollar Pen, it seems long compared to the 48mm J bars I removed from the Estie J and Estie LJ. At least for the LJ, the little hard rubber spacer dropped out after removing the old J bar.

Therefore, is it assumed that replacing a J bar will require trimming of the bar to match the length of the original bar?

Or will 54mm (without any trimming) work just fine for all three pens: Dollar, J, and LJ (without the spacer)?

Thanks.

Might want to look at Tryphon, they have dinky sized j-bars for smaller pens.

Aye. Tryphon has 40mm, 54mm, and 62mm sized J bars. Alas, I'm measuring the old bars from the J and LJ at 48-50mm and I'm not hearing about anyone that's needed to trim the length when inserting replacements.

I'm wondering whether I can just insert 54mm bars as is or whether I have to buy 54mm bars with the understanding that I'd have to trim the excess.
