Hi All,

A quick question about an Aerometric Parker "51" I recently came across. As I've freely admitted several times, I'm not an ardent admirer of the model; but this particular pen has a really lovely nib, and it's an enjoyable writer. I wouldn't mind running it, now and then, through the rotation.

Only thing: it has a small scribbly hairline stress crack in the barrel, about 7/8 of the way toward the bottom. ("Scribbly" is meant to suggest that it meanders a bit, in a rough comma shape, rather than proceeding in a line.) It's just barely discernible when a fingernail is dragged over it. Honestly, if the barrel plastic were a darker shade (this one is Navy Gray), I'm reasonably sure that I would never have noticed the crack at all. I wasn't able, regrettably, to get a photograph that showed it.

Should I practice benign neglect in this case...or should I do something about the issue? If so...what?

Thanks,

Jon

Jon,
If you decide to do something about it, I would recommend Ron Zorn. He has been doing some wonderful repair work on cracked 51s....

Thanks, Tom! The estimable Mr. Zorn was my first thought as well, if I decide to send this fellow off for a makeover.

Best,

Jon
