Full Version: NOS, Boxed M2 Duramaster

I've been watching a seller in ebay. It seems that he buys unrestored pens, repairs and turns them back around. I was looking at his recent wins to possibly get a jump on what he may have coming up for sale. eureka.gif Sneaky, smart who's to say. hmm1.gif You can't blame a guy for trying to make a dollar or a girl trying to save one. blush.gif

Anyway, I saw that he has won a Red NOS Boxed M2 Duramaster with chalk marks, 9128 nib (extra fine extra flexible) & the whole shebang. It's a very good looking pen and I REALLY want it. He got it for a sumgai song to say the least. GBP 6.51 & 3.50 GBP shipping. About $20 if my math is good.

Anyway. I sent him a message through ebay asking if it was going to be coming up for sale. He replied that it would be listed in the next week or 2 after it arrives. I really want this pen but don't know what my max bid should be. Any suggestions?

I am not up on M2 prices, but the 9128 can sell for about $30, probably more. I suppose what I mean is that if I were to see one for less than $30 I would snap it up because I think I could sell it for more.

Are the chalk marks worth anything to you? I've seen some NOS pens with chalk marks which were in worse shape than some that have been polished by a competent polisher. If you are going to use the pen, do not pay the NOS premium, instead, invest in Tryphon's pen polishing waxes. Unless these caps have a reputation for getting thrashed, then the NOS might mean you get a cap in hard-to-find condition.

Also - on that nib. . . make sure you want it before you spring the $ for it. I was not impressed with the one that I got and I sold it. Sure, it flexed, but not in any way that knocked my socks off.

Yes I plan on using it. I really like vintage pens, but am really freaky about condition. Mama always said if your going to have something, have the best of whatever it is. It sort of stuck, so now I'm the one who HAS to buy NOS. Sigh It's a sickness I know. But who can't help but love a 50 year old virgin. roflmho.gif I know the chalk marks will eventually become a memory & I'm ok with that.

I know the nib well. A friend of mine has one and I LUST after that nib. My only hope is that it writes as well or better than hers.

I was thinking of bidding somewhere in the $60-75.00 range. Too much for such a beauty?

I just saw that enterbrook.net has the 9128 listed for $25. You should check with him to see if he actually has them.

I think that your proposed range will win you the pen. I imagine it will sell for $50. I know that I just undervalued your purchase, but you will pay extra for the pathology which your mama passed on to you. But that's ok, we all do it! wink.gif

I have a few very clean M2's that I got from E-Bay and though they have "Fine" and "Medium" nibs (the un-numbered nibs) I think the highest I paid was $25. I personally would have a hard time paying $60-$70 for an M2 even with said 9128 nib. I'm with jmkeuning, $50 should do it.

Edit - Wow, that's was easy to say/type when it's not me bidding on a pen cool.gif
