I've got a couple of modern Pelikans and like them so much, I thought I'd try a vintage Pelikan as well. I find the medium nib on my M200 to be too broad for some applications, so I'm leaning toward a fine nib for the 140. Does anyone have any opinions on the 140, especially as a general user for the checkbook etc.? About what size is it when posted? I understand that these nibs often have some flexibility as well.
Thanks!

I love my Pelikan 140. I have a right-footed semiflex oblique nib on my Pelikan, which is perfect for my left-handed needs. The 140 is essentially the same size as a 200, both in length and in width. If you're comfortable with the 200, you'll be comfortable with the 140. The 140 might be a bit more delicate than the 200, but it was a workhorse in the 1950s, and there's nothing preventing it from being a workhorse today. Rick Propas is the guy you want to talk to for a 140; I think he's selling fully restored, wonderful writing 140's right now for $85. This is the link to Rick's webpage:

I had bad luck with the 140s I've owned. Make sure to get a fully restored one from a good dealer, don't try eBay like me.
Nice pens, but they're lower than typical Pelikan quality, as they were made as a lower line than the regular 400s. The goldplating on the clip and trim ring is super thin, so most 140s out there are brassed.
If you can find a good example, I'm sure you'll love it. The bullet shape is very cool, and green striped pens from Pelikan are always beautiful. Good way to explore a vintage Pelikan, although I prefer the modern ones myself.

i have a 120 which is the 140 with a stainless nib. they're cool little pens and i echo what others have said. a little more delicate than a 200. Definitely talk to Rick and make sure you make your nib preferences known. the 120 i have has a semi-flex nib which means it gets not too much use from me these days. But i can't give that one up. it's my only vintage pel.

Thanks for the comments everyone, they were very helpful. I've just ordered a fine point from Rick P. Just like Christmas all over again! I just hope this doesn't start me down the road of vintage Pelikan accumulation.

Have fun with the pen, Bob. If you like modern Pelikans I think that you'll really like the vintage ones. The nibs are fantastic and Rick is great to buy from.
