I found this site accidentally the other day while looking for replacement jewels for an Esterbrook J. After looking around for a while, I was impressed by the knowledge and enthusiasm of this group, so I had to sign up.

I have been collecting FPs for several years now, concentrating on old pens that I can restore to working order. I started with Esterbrooks because they are inexpensive, easy to find, easy to fix, and good writers. Then Sheaffer. Then Parker. I just picked up an Eversharp Skyline pen/pencil set yesterday from the original owner, and a Parker 45 in the original box. I enjoy writing with a piece of history, and find that my handwriting has improved vs. using a BP. Quality tools encourage quality work.

Hello and welcome to the obsession.

If you need to restore the Skyline, be aware some of the Skyline plastics are quite brittle compared to Esties, Sheaffers and Parkers. I (and many others) find that gentle heat - around 145 degrees F. - applied to the barrel threads is most useful when removing and replacing the section. The heat helps 'relax' the plastic and loosens any shellac that may have been applied to the section. There is quite a bit of information around the forum on restoration and repair. And of course, any questions will usually be answered in the Repair Q&A section.

Have fun!

You certainly have my permission. I hope it's an original quote.
