I recently acquired a burgundy skyline, executive size (5 5/8" long). But its dome top is loose. After "unscrewed" it, I found that someone has sticked a tape on it so it can be "fit" in the cap. It acutally is a hair thinner than what appeared to be required. It could be that the plastic has shrinked/expanded, or just the wrong cap dome. Does any of you know if the skyline executive's cap dome is of a larger size than that for standard skyline? Or should they be interchangeable? Thanks for advice. It seems that I will be on a hunt for a correct cap dome of burdundy color.

Hi Jun,
the tape trick is an old popular one on skylines. While you search for a better cap you could just double up the tape layer to get a tight fit. The tape does no harm and is removable later on so no damage.

The derbys on my executives do appear to be a bit larger than the derby s on my standard skylines.

I have also observed a lot of variance (shrinkage) on the plastics of some of my other skylines.

Thanks, Jim. Next time when we get together, I'd like to check out your skyline executives to see the difference. Jun

Hi Jun,
Not only are the derbies different size but of course the over-dome pocket clip on the oversized pens are larger too. Many so-called "restorers" who do not have the correct oversized pocket clip to work with, have been known to discard the oversized derby which may have been good, in favor of the smaller derby just so that they could make the pen "complete" for sale by putting the more readily available standard size clip on a standard sized derby and adapted the standard size derby to fit into the oversized cap cavity.
