A lot of people don't know that there was a sterling-cap version of the so-called first year Crest pen. The plastic was gray striped. I knew of one Boston collector with a set, but had never had one myself till a couple of months ago.

Congrats, Rob.

A grand pen. I'm envious.

I've never owned one, though i did get to shoot a set a few years back. One day will track one down though.

Wow, and I thought I wanted a sterling-cap "51." If I fall in love with one of these, it will just be terrible for my wallet.

A very handsome item, to be sure, and scarce, too.

Though often referred to as 'First-Year', they are not, and as David Nishimura opines, first version might be a more accurate description for many models commonly termed first year.

That's a very pretty set. I think what gets me most is the cone on the pencil with that great hint of tarnish. So unexpected---our eyes are accustomed to seeing only shiny gold fill or shiny chrome. The lever on the pens, by the way, seems to be plated, rather than solid silver. Mine shows lines of wear along the edges.
