Hello,

I have a few metal Sheaffer snorkel and touchdown caps that have small dents that I would like to repair. What is the best practice for doing so? Do these caps have inner caps that need to be pulled? Are the inner caps pullable, or are they fixed permanently to the cap? Once the inner cap is removed (if it exists), is it straight-forward to apply pressure inside the cap to push out a dent?

Also, I've heard about rouge cloths. Can they remove surface use-mark scratches from a metal Sheaffer cap?

BTW, these caps are the common chrome-and-gold-trim caps on Sheaffer "Sentinel" models.

Thanks!

Richard

So far, there's no good way to get these caps apart for de-dinging -- you have to remove the inner cap, and this process destroys it. I had Daniel Kirchheimer de-ding a client's Touchdown TM Masterpiece, and that was success only because I was willing to cut the outer cap off a donor inner cap.

Thanks, Richard. Too bad -- these are great caps and highly reliable pens.
