Hey guys and gals,
My name is Trent and I'm from Perth, Australia. I must say that I've never seen such an eloquent and knowledgeable online community!
Basically, I'm interested in Fountain Pens (all nice writing instruments for that matter) because of the speed at which I can write with them (uni student, good for exams!) and the way they present themselves, particularly in business situations. My favourite manufacturers are Graf von Faber Castell (alas I do not own a FP, only a ballpen, but one day), Lamy and Waterman.
I currently have on order a Lamy studio (EF) and Waterman Carene (F), and I plan on getting a Graf Classic Pernambuco (F) by the end of this year. I currently only own a Parker frontier (my first FP, how embarrassing!), a Graf Guilloche BP and a Mont Blanc RB that my dad gave me because he upgraded; so I'm a bit of a newbie!
I'd like to say thankyou all for having me and I know I'll enjoy my time here.
Cheers

Hey Trent!!! Welcome to FPN.
Lots of good info about pens , inks, papers, creative writing etc, on this forum, make yourself at home.
Even though I live in the USA now, I lived in Canberra for about 3.5 years, when I was a little kid.

Welcome to the boards!
The Lamy Studio is one I have had my eye on, but so far I haven't shelled out the cash. I keep finding other things to spend it on instead.

Yeah I'm thinking of getting the white studio with 14kt nib after I receive my safari and Carene I just ordered. If I like the safari I'll definitely go for the studio as well.

Welcome Trent, and greetings from the other side of the island!
An open offer to Australian residents - I currently have available for circulation a set of small pads and some loose papers from various paper makers showing a variety of written ink samples - let me know by PM if you'd like to see them. Paper samples from companies such as Clairefontaine, Rhodia, Apica, Kokuyo, Crown Mill, and more readily available papers such as Pukka, Tudor (Spicer), and Spirax (Esselte) - more added as I find them (again, credits and thanks to InkyPete for contributions making up the bulk of this selection and to Phthalo for some significant additions). Add your own ink samples, try out the paper. Samples of excellent papers and one really bad example as a contrast (smooth surface but bad feathering and bleedthrough).
Regards, Myles.

Hi there:
I was in Perth in July 2006. The weather was perfect. We stayed for two weeks. Stayed at the IBIS hotel and walked to work - 5 minutes away. I would love to visit again.
There was a pen shop called T. Sharp & Co in the downtown (Hay Street), is it still there ?
I remember buying a few pens from that shop.
Welcome.
Regards

Surprising that the weather would be perfect despite it being Winter in July! That being said, our winter is almost like a British summer!
T. Sharp and Co. is still there; and has been for over 100 years. I love the shop, but our Australian prices are just too much. Great staff and service though, and they do stock a lot of other products like dip pens, gift sets, paper products and the like.
Next time you come to Perth, come in Summer! Gotta love those 35-40C days - perfect for the beach.
Cheers
