I'm finally getting around to introducing myself. Got back into FPs when I realized I was going to have to handwrite 2 bar exams! If I can just find the perfect pen...

Hi,

Welcome from Cumberland, Rhode Island!

Welcome Anna!

Hello, Rhode Island!

I was married to a Rhode Islander, and I've lived in Jamestown, Wickford, Providence, East Providence, and stayed with a friend in Woonsocket -- so I kinda know the state. Heh.

Welcome to the FPN!

Welcome!

I spent 38 years living in Rhode Island before I moved to England and still get back there twice year, usually.

You will love it here at FPN.

Um.......could you do a couple of things for me?
  1. Have a Del's for me
  2. Have a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee for me
[sigh]

Some things you just can't get over here!

Hi and welcome!
Can't find the perfect pen, 'eh? Well, there are dozens of 'em!!

Welcome to FPN Anna from out here in northern California.
Best of luck on your quest for that perfect pen. There are lots of resources here. Please let us know what you end up choosing. thumbup.gif

Cheers

Del's is a once a summer tradition! DD Iced Coffee? That's about a once a day summer tradition! wink.gif

Clancy - I spent 7 years in the SF Bay area - Rockridge & Alameda. Still miss it!

Dillon - I'm in Bristol smile.gif

Mike - I'm already in the scary vortex of collecting! Was at the NE pen show and a guy said "if you're a collector..." "Oh no," said I, "I'm not a collector, I use all of mine." He replied with, "I meant if you have more than 6 FPs."

Uh-oh. Apparently I'm a collector. I'm quite past the 6 pen mark and also well into the natural downward spiral of the quest for the perfect paper, the perfect inks (and then the endless variation of obsession: not just the one perfect ink, but the perfect ink for each color, and then into the frightening subtlety of the perfect ink for each pen). Hmmmm. Need to pass that bar exam and get a job!

Thanks to the rest of you for the warm welcome!

Welcome to FPN, Anna.

AnnaKat - This is a "wicked good," I mean "wicked awesome" website. Have lived in Newport, my family is from Providence, and I have spent many vacations in South County. I know the bus route from Newport to Providence, including Barrington, Bristol, Warren and Portsmouth, the old Wampanaug Trail.

Come on in, the water's fine! Welcome!!

Have an Awful, Awful for me when you next drive by a "Creamery"

AnnaKat - I forgot an important bit - If you feel the need to browse for a pen, or need some ink or a journal, stop by Morrison's Stationary Store (or is it Office Products?) on Thayer Street (near Waterman Street - name purely a coincidence) in Providence - among the buildings of Brown University. The proprietor has a limited selection of pen makes and inks, but there's something there should you need it to tide you over 'til the next show. I picked up a Lamy there and some PR ink a few weeks ago. I also bought my first FPs there 30 years ago when the Morrison family still owned it. The proprietor is a very nice guy. RI is not completely devoid of a store that can cater in some way to FP collectors/owners/people w/ greater than 6 pens.

Welcome to FPN Anna.

Casmi, if you want that iced coffee, I'll dip a piece of Rhodia into some coffee, allow it to dry and write you a letter on it. How's that for service?
If you're interested, PM and I'll get right on it... thumbup.gif

AH! I meant to tell you -- Brian. At Morrison's. Does he still have the Maltese behind the counter? I'd left Rhode Island for three years, went back for a short spell... and Brian remembered me. That might be a Rhode Island thing. Morrison's and the RISD art/supplies store -- no fountain pens, but fun to browse nevertheless.
scribe75
Ethernautrix - Yes to the Maltese, napping quietly when I was there, but still a presence. I never caught Brian's name, very nice guy.

AnnaKat - I should've known you had already found Morrison's. Little Rhody is just that, little, and good secrets are hard kept in close quarters. That makes this a public service announcement to those FPNer's "stranded" in Providence, I guess.

I forgot to say too that Brian mentioned that when the lease is up (I forget when that is), the rent is likely to be too high. He may have to move downtown to the mall on Weybosset Street, though I don't think he really wants to be there. I sensed he'd prefer the East Hill near Brown. Thayer Street has gotten too pricey (Starbucks, Au Bon Pain, CVS, etc. willing to pay big rents is driving out the little guys, but that's a topic for another thread).

Welcome Anna!!! So, what pens will you use to write the 2 Bar Exams with?
And you will be in good company here, there are plenty of attorneys here, including at least one Federal Judge
