Hello all,

I thought I would share this easy repair with you. I had a chinese Jinhao pen delivered last week. The (celluloid, acrylic or plastic ?) cap was a bit scratched and the seller was refusing to cover return expenses, obviously insinuating that I had scratched it myself... As it turns out, I realised when the next Jinhao came that the culprit is the small insignia that is attached to the cap : it just damages the pen during shipping.

I had read somewhere that some scratched CDs can be recovered with toothpast : it is mildly abrasive. So I went ahead with a pinch of Tom's of Maine which I rubbed with something smooth : the cork from my last bottle on wine. Well, that pretty much did it. The pen is "as new".

I might not do that on a fancy expensive pen, but for this one it was great !

Cheers !

Congratulations. It's always nice when a plan comes off isn't it. I'm glad your pen looks as good as new.

Regards

Richard.

Great tip! Thank you. It's good to know that your new pen also has healthy teeth! lticaptd.gif

Another option: Mequiar's Auto Polish. It did a wonderful job on one of my Esterbrooks, but I wouldn't recommend it on laquer.
