Full Version: Hello from Denmark! Ink for Moleskine...

I'm very happy to have stumbled over this network. Sometimes I fell like the only one in Denmark with a interest in fountain pens...
I've done some reading on some of the topics here and I can see a lot of you share my frustrations about moleskines paper.
I have a big fascination of the Moleskine handbooks, but I would like my ink to flow better.

Do you have some ink recomendations for blue ink suitable for writing on Moleskine notebook paper?
Or maybe I should try out a different more 'adventureous' colour?

I have only tried LAMY ink, and cheaper french 'school' inks.

/Andreas

Glad to have you on board. I just joined myself.

I have used Moleskine journals for quite some time. Initially only with Ball Point. I ran into the same thing when I started using fountain pens. Especially with Lamy and their ink cartridges. Love the pens; I have quite a few of them. I do not like the Lamy ink and they do not accept international cartridges.

I started using other fountain pens with Private Reserve Ink Cartridges. Go to http://www.privatereserveink.com/ for sample colors. I have a handful of the colors; American Blue is a good blue. Tanzanite is different blue. I like Black Cherry and Fiesta Red also. I have also tried their bottle ink with my Lamy pens and it works great. They all write well on Moleskine. Ironically, for me, they do not do well on Rhodia paper, which from what I read from others is unusual.

Welcome Andreas! I don't use Moleskine handbooks, but there are many Moleskine users in this group who will provide you with suggestions.

Hi Andreas, just around the corner here.
Happy to see you on board.
Yes, Waterman's blue-black is a good ink (in my opinion) but Parker's is okay too. There really is a big difference in the final colours here (depending on paper, dry-out time etc...)

in my last moleskine, practically nothing rolleyes.gif - well, except Lamy blue.

In my present moleskine, quite a few: Parker Quink Blue-black is really beautiful on the cream paper (and for some reason doesn't fade as badly on molekine paper as it has on others), Legal Lapis (more teal than blue), Waterman South Seas Blue, PR Sonic Blue, Pelikan Royal Blue, Sailor Jentle Blue.

Wow, a lot of fast replies! And a lot of information!!! Thanks! thumbup.gif

To summerize the input:

Moleskine has some batch variation on paper quality, so you should store a small (for now biggrin.gif ) collection of different inks with different abilities.

'Good ink' is partly a scientific matter, partly a very subjective matter. So you have to do some experimenting on your own.
(I found some ink rewievs. And wondered why they don't put down temperature and humidety as well as paper, pen and nib. Those are important factors in a drying proces and could probably influence the results)

I have listed your ink sugestions and is now out there looking for second opinions, rewievs and of course availebility for a dane wallbash.gif

Cheers! (and for my German neighbour Mike: Viel dank)

Hi Andreas!
Thanks for the kind greetings!!
Your mention of "Science" reminds me of me myself. Being an old chemist, I still love fooling around with new (and old) inks, comparing different brands and colours, checking out their dependency on different paper sorts, sunlight and all that.

Welcome to FPN.

I've had great results with Waterman Florida Blue, Waterman Blue-Black, Diamine Indigo, and, lately, Aurora Blue. The purple of the Aurora Blue contrasts really vividly with the color of the Moleskine paper. Best,
David
