Full Version: Inkstand

It's nothing spectacular either aesthetically speaking or financial value wise.

However, this Prettywell art deco Bakelite and glass inkstand I picked up for £3. (about $5) is an attractive addition to my various other writing related paraphernalia.

However, I just know some of you are going to outdo me with some of your own more exquisite possessions.

(I found this picture of an identical stand online to save me taking a photo).

That's a great looking item! So often, one or both inkwell lids are missing. Also, it is great to have the pen rest integrated with the inkwells.
Excellent find, particularly for the price. Congrats!

Regards, greg

WOW, that's gorgeous! I bet you could sell that in the marketplace for 10-20 times that price.

I've since seen them for about $25.

I also picked this one with silver tops up for just $10. Although, unfortunately, the pen was not included.

Very nice! How much do the ink wells hold? From the pic it looks like a small area in the middle or is that an illusion?
Ernst Bitterman
They won't hold a LOT of ink, as they were meant for dip-pens and not intended for long-term storage. You would make sure they were full at the start of the day (or have a flunky come in a couple of minute before you arrived at your desk and see to it). Probably enough for 2 or three loads in an FP, which should see one through a day's correspondance.
